HomeMy WebLinkAbout1992 02-24 EDAM Special Session1 MINUTES OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY OF THE CITY OF BROOKLYN CENTER IN THE COUNTY OF HENNEPIN AND THE STATE OF MINNESOTA SPECIAL SESSION FEBRUARY 24, 1992 CITY HALL CALL TO ORDER The Brooklyn Center Economic Development Authority met in special session and was called to order by President Todd Paulson at 11:13 p.m. ROLL CALL President Todd Paulson, Commissioners Celia Scott, Jerry Pedlar, Dave Rosene, and Philip Cohen. Also present were City Manager Gerald Splinter, City Attorney Charlie LeFevere, Director of Public Works Sy Knapp, Public Works Coordinator Diane Spector, Director of Planning and Inspection Ron Warren, City Engineer Mark Maloney, Finance Director Paul Holmlund, Personnel Coordinator Geralyn Barone, and Council Secretary Carla Wirth. APPROVAL OF MINUTES FEBRUARY 10, 1992 SPECIAL SESSION There was a motion by Commissioner Rosene and seconded by Commissioner Pedlar to approve the minutes of the February 10, 1992 EDA meeting. The motion passed unanimously. RESOLUTION The City Manager indicated the proposed resolution deals with applications for rehabilitation grants. RESOLUTION NO. 92 -08 Commissioner Cohen introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption: RESOLUTION APPROVING TWO (2) BROOKLYN CENTER ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY GRANTS (FILE NOS. H99 [8025] AND H100 [80261) The motion for the adoption of the foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Commissioner Scott, and the motion passed unanimously. 2/24/92 1 DISCUSSION ITEM SETTING DATE FOR EDA WORK SESSION The City Manager indicated the Commissioners have expressed concern with having to discuss EDA agenda items at the end of Council meetings. He suggested the EDA meet on the third Monday every other month to allow more discussion time. Routine matters such as rehab grants, minutes, etc. could still be handled on Council meeting nights. President Paulson indicated support of this suggestion since it will help to shorten the length of Council meetings and provide more time and attention to other EDA issues. He reported the Chamber of Commerce indicated their EDA members would be interested in working with the City's EDA members to provide input on various issues. In response to Commissioner Scott's question, the City Manager explained the special meetings would not be held if nothing was on the agenda. There was a motion by Commissioner Rosene and seconded by President Paulson, to establish the following EDA meetings: March 16, May 18, and July 20, 1992, at 7 p.m., with the March 16 meeting held at the Heritage Center. The motion passed unanimously. ADJOURNMENT There was a motion by Commissioner Scott and seconded by Commissioner Rosene to adjourn the meeting. The motion passed unanimously.
