HomeMy WebLinkAbout2024.03.19 PRCMMINUTES OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION FOR THE CITY OF BROOKLYN CENTER IN THE COUNTY OF HENNEPIN AND THE STATE OF MINNESOTA REGULAR SESSION MARCH 19, 2024 CALL TO ORDER Chair Jeffrey called the meeting to order at 6:30 pm. ROLL CALL Chair Jeffrey, Commissioners Sorenson, Ebert and Younglove were present. Also present were Councilmember Butler, Parks & Recreation Deputy Director Carissa Goebel, Public Works Planner Kory Andersen Wagner and Community Center Supervisor Rachel Kenyon. Vice Chair Bonovsky and Commissioner Branch were not present. APPROVAL OF AGENDA Commissioner Sorenson moved to approve the agenda. Commissioner Younglove seconded the motion. The agenda was approved unanimously. APPROVAL OF FEBRUARY MINUTES Commissioner Sorenson moved to approve the minutes. Commissioner Younglove seconded the motion. The minutes were approved unanimously. CITY COUNCIL LIAISON REPORT Councilmember Butler gave an update on salt savings from the winter, sod on Brooklyn Blvd, local option sales tax education, and help with the stray cats in the area. DOG PARK UPDATE Planner Andersen Wagner presented some updates on a potential future dog park. He discussed potential amenities, what the park location should have, concerns that have come up when planning. Ultimately, a group of city staff took those things into account and chose the potential location of Northport Park. Next steps for potentially moving forward include community engagement and refining cost estimates. EMERALD ASH BORER TREE REMOVAL/REPLACEMENT Deputy Director Goebel gave an update from Public Works Director Heyman on ways that the City is taking care of and building up a healthy and diverse canopy. PARKS AND REC COMMISSION RESOLUTION DISCUSSION Commissioner Sorenson suggested that any council member should be able to nominate commissioners. The group agreed on this. Deputy Director Goebel briefly explained that there will be more coming from the Adopt-A-Park program. Commissioner Sorenson moved to adjourn the meeting. Commissioner Ebert seconded. The decision was unanimous. FUTURE MEETING The next meeting will be on April 16th, 2024 at 6:30pm at the Community Center.
