Canvass of Election Returns a. Resolution Regarding Canvass of November 4, 2008, Municipal General Election •Requested Council Action: —Motion to adopt resolution. 4. Adjournment I Member Kay Lasman introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption: RESOLUTION NO. 2008-120 RESOLUTION REGARDING CANVASS QF NOVEMBER 4, 2008, MUNICIPAL GENERAL ELECTION AND SPECIAL ELECTION WHEREAS, the City Council has met for the purpose of canvassing the election returns of the regular municipal election for the office of Council Member; and WHEREAS, the City Council has met for the purpose of canvassing the election returns of a special election called pursuant to Resolution No. 2008-99, adopted by the City Council on September 8, 2008, for the purpose of submitting to the electors the question of addin new Section 12.13. Fines and Penalties to the Cit Charter. g Y NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Brooklyn Center that it is hereby determined by official canvass that Tim Roche and Kay Lasman are declared to be the successful candidates for the office of Council Member of the City of Brooklyn Center. BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Brooklyn Center that the votes cast at said special election for the following question were as follows: SHOULD THE CITY OF BROOKLYN CENTER CHARTER BE AMENDED TO REQUIRE THE CITY COUNCIL TO ESTABLISH ADMINISTRATIVE PENALTIES FOR VIOLATIONS OF CITY ORDINANCES? YES 6,951 NO 4,608 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the question submitted was approved in the affirmative by more than 51 percent of the qualified voters of the City voting at such election and that said question was duly approved by said voters.
