HomeMy WebLinkAbout1988 06-13 EBDMb ~ 1 Earle Brown Days Brooklyn Center Minnesota `6301 Shingle Creek Parkway 55430 (612) 561-5440 Earle Brown Days Meeting Meeting Minutes June 13, 1988 City Hall Those present: Quenroe, Countryman, Bergeland, Thorud, Alford, Slupske, Dorff, Roen, Cohen, Graffunder, Vreeland, LaCrosse APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Minutes from June 6 were approved. FINANCIAL REPORT: Alford reported for Nelson. The parade is $1,000 over budget. Nelson requests we approve a budget increase before it happens. A motion made by Alford and seconded by Bergeland to approve an additional $500 to parade budget. Motion passed. Balance of 15,134.05 as of 6/13/88. • Proceeds from carnival $2,504, down $1,000 from last year.. BUTTON SALES/MEMORABILIA: Brookdale is willing to have a table set up in the mall for button sales. AMBASSADORS: Drop boxes needed for car dealers. Vreeland will get a copy of ad to have extras printed. LaCrosse to have Brooklyn Printing print 5,000 copies. Car dealers made a committment to be a major sponsor and should have been included in tabloid. Motion made by Cohen, seconded by Dorff to check into adding them even at a cost. Motion passed. Vreeland arrived, above motion was deleted because Vreeland said nothing can be added at this point. She said they got a great looking ad. TABLOID: Vreeland says it looks good. The antique show is on at Westbrook Mall but info was received too late for tabloid. CARNIVAL: Slupske reported we probably lost $3,000 this year. Carnival owner is hesitant to come back in 1989. If he does, it will be his last without a better crowd. Possible problems: Hot weather, scattered events, bad time of year, and carnival not in conjunction with other Earle Brown • Days events. PUBLICITY: Vreeland and Dor_ff had posters made. LaCrosse suggested producing a commercial this year to use next year to promote Earle Brown Days, approximate cost $400 and $15 each time shown. Motion made by Cohen, seconded by Alford to go ahead. Motion passed. LaCrosse will check into. Slupske reported the festivals that are the most successful have their events concentrated. They also have a free activity next to a paid activity. JUNIOR ROYALTY: Thor.ud recruited parents of jr.. royalty. She is encouraging them to take over. Phil Carruthers will MC. There are 31 applications. TABLOID cont.: Vreeland reported we received services fror!. businesses, some of whom are never recognized. Example, Waste Management who donates $1700 in services. A thank you letter or a flyer with their names on will be made. Board members should bring to next meeting a list of individuals or businesses deserving of this special recognition. SENIOR ROYALTY: There will be reception on Monday, June 2C at 4 p.m. at Days Inn. Everyone is invited. Board members are encouraged to attend if passible. AUCTION: Dead. • NEW BUSINESS: Quenr.oe thanked the Earle Brown Days board and committee members for their hard work this past year.. Karen Larson representing the auctioneer came in. She suggested starting May 1. A committee needs to go around to merchants. They need merchandise, not gift certificates. People should know they can donate used items. Need big bright posters and handouts. The biggest problem she sees with our auction is not getting list of items early enough.
