APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Minutes from August 8 were approved.
CELEBRATE MINNESOTA 1990: Nyquist suggested this be part of the
Earle Brown Days Committee and be held at the Earle Brown Farm.
Grant money is available and the farm fits in very nicely with the
criteria. Quenroe moved to accept proposal, explore all possibilities,
and to keep it under the Earle Brown Days umbrella. Motion passed.
Bergeland will chair.
PERMANENT SITE: Quenroe met with Brookdale. The carnival cannot be
held there because of their contracts with tennants. Splinter gave
permission for the carnival to be held in the community center
parking lot on a trial basis for 1989.
CARNIVAL: 75 - 800 of Starbrite's carnival will be here in '89.
Majority of rides are children's. Slupske visited the carnival
a couple weeks ago. The equipment isn't as new. The carnival
will let us use tent for bingo, pull tabs, auction, etc. Slupske
recommends having other activities there too.
Alford read letter from Beisner of the Earle Brown farm offering
the farm as a permanent site. However, carnival cannot be held
there. Motion passed for Slupske to negotiate a contract with
Starbrite for the carnival to be held June 22 - 25, 1989 in the
community center parking lot.
PUBLICITY: LaCrosse passed out a proposal which included the use
of banners, posters, flyers, radio, cable television and newspaper.
Some costs would increase if more copies of posters or flyers were
needed. Alford tabled discussion to a later date when Ambassador
chair is present. Zukowski suggested publicizing earlier than last
year and using a variety of media.
PARADE: Units are starting to cost more. Nerburn will try to hold
costs within last year's budget.
BUTTONS: Nyquist suggested using buttons as publicity rather than
a money maker. Maybe each band participant. could be given one.
AUCTION: Bergeland passed out a handout on auction suggestions.
There is a potential to make sever.-al thousand dollars. Possible
sites include under tent near carnival in '89 and at the farm in
1990. The auction needs a chair., someone who knows the business
community.
NEW EVENTS: Jacobson is chairing and she has already formed a
committee. Earle Brown Days needs events for Friday, and Saturday.
ICE CREAM SOCIAL: Will be held at Brookdale on Wed. June 21, 1989.
CAR SHOW: Nerburn thinks it can be a money maker. We could charge
$1/person and just about break even.
VOLUNTEER RECOGNITION EVENT: The City Council has approved the pro--
posal for an event to be held for all volunteers including Earle
Brown Days Committee. Nyquist suggested contacting Rotary to be
involved. Vreeland will serve on committee.
NEW BUSINESS: a. Nelson asked Earle Brown Days Board if the
Chamber could borrow $5,000 from them to be paid back in April '89
at 9% interest. Reason why - they have changed their billing cycle.
Everyone will get billed at the same time, at the beginning of fiscal
year which starts in March. Motion by Graffunder, seconded by
Quenroe to permit them to do this. Motion passed.
b. City attorneys will look into whether or not Earle Brown Days
must pay ASCAP for using music during carnival and other events.
C. Lions Club hosts their annual pancake breakfast on October_ 30.
d. Vreeland made a motion, seconded by Nelson to add Helen Jacobson
as a Board Member, term to expire 12/31/89. Motion passed.
