Meeting Minutes
November 7, 1988
City Hall
Those Present: Tierney, Zukowski, Dorff, Slupske, Alford, Quenroe,
Chisenhall, Countryman, Jacobsen, Bergeland, Roen, Nyquist, LaCrosse.
INTRODUCTION OF NEW COMMITEE MEMBERS: Mike Tierney, replacing Paula
Zukowski at Post Publishing. Pat Chisenhall from Brookdale Library.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES: The minutes from October 3 were approved.
FINANCIAL REPORT: Balance of $5,509. 16 as of November 7.
CELEBRATE MINNESOTA. 1990: Bergeland submitted a. report which
stated Earle Brown Days cannot submit a grant application. The
application must come from cities, towns, Indian tribes, or community
• development organizations. It doesn't look like the farm qualifies
because the project is already budgeted. Nyquist stated. he had a
different understanding of the qualifications and suggested Brad
Hoffman be contacted; Bergeland will pursue.
LaCrosse said Earle Brown Days can still offer some special activities.
If the committee is interested in asking for additional money from
the City for 1990, they should submit a proposed soon.
TABLOID: Zukowski asked if we would consider hiring her to do publicity.
Quenroe moved to allow her to submit a formal proposal. It should
include what she would do, the cost and her fee. Seconded by Jacobsen.
Motion passed.
CARNIVAL: Slupske has gotten a couple of bad reports about Starbrite
concerning insurance and equipment. He is meeting with owner on
November I to discuss these problems. If he is satisfied, he will
sign contract. If not, he will tell them we are not''interested.
PARADE: Estimated to cost about a $1,000 more than last year. Pat
Miles is suggested as Grand Marshal.

CAR SHOW: Posible site-office building across from civic center- Charge
admission. A budget will be submitted to request money for a band.
Quenroe questioned if we aren't spending too much money for this event.
Slupske said possibly a car dealer could sponsor.
BUTTONS: Old buttons will be given out at Kaleidescope. Possibly
give buttons away for publicity purposes.
NEW EVENTS: Jabcobsen reported they would like to offer a craft and
collectible show on Friday and Saturday. Other new ideas include
bingo, fun night, and beer tent.
Park and Rec: Schedule for Sunday In Central Park 5 pm Teddy Bear Band,
6:15 pm Brass Tracks, 8:45 pm Brooklyn Community Band, 10 pm Fireworks.
ASCAP: LaCrosse reported Earle Brown Days should send letter stating
we're not paying for '88 and would negotiate for '89.
SECURITY: A memo for all security requests must be sent to Chief Lindsay.
He will determine whether to schedule police officers or security
officers and how many.
NEXT MEETING: Monday, January 23, 7:30 a.m., City Hall Council Chambers.
