HomeMy WebLinkAbout1989 07-10 EBDMi 7 Earle Brown Days Brooklyn Center Minnesota 6301 Shingle Creek Parkway 55430 (612) 561-5440 Earle Brown Days Meeting Minutes July 10, 1989 City Hall Those Present: Nelson, Slupske, Nerburn, Alford, Dorff, Quenroe, Roen, Nyquist, Chisenhall, Bergeland, Jacobsen, LaCrosse APPROVAL OF MINUTES:. The minutes from June 19 were approved. NOMINATIONS: Alford nominated Judith Bergeland as the chair of the 1990 Earle Brown Days committee. She stated that Bergeland had been asked and has accepted. Dorff seconded. The motion to appoint Bergeland as chair passed unanimously. FINANCIAL REPORT: Nelson reported $3,728 in bank, less the outstanding bills, should leave a projected balance of $411. Income: $ 200 interest • 750 merchandise sales 235 auction 4725 donations Expenses: Approximately $13,000 Nerburn suggested expanding committee members and to find ways to make money. PUBLICITY: Is paying off. Park and recreation department received many calls in response to radio and cable ads. CARNIVAL: Slupske says it has to be same weekend and close to other EBD activities. Bergeland reported we have permission from the Richardson Corp. to use the parking lot at the Highland store for carnival next year. PARADE: Parade was great. Nerburn would like to start easing out as chair. He will check with Woody Hoiseth to see if he's interested in chairing. • Nerburn would like to make the car show a money maker. Maybe it could be in conjunction with an antique show. NEW EVENTS: The committee wants to have a craft show. Bergeland will work with committee to determine whether there should be a craft show or an antique show. Maybe one could be held on Saturday, the other on Sunday. BUTTONS/MEMORABILIA: Dorff said there will probably be about $500 profit after all expenses have been paid. AUCTION: $741.75 was taken in, less $500 for auctioneer's expenses (per their contract). The auctioneer donated their 12% to EBD. Bergeland's recommendation is to drop the auction. STREET DANCE: Very successful. Attracted all age groups except teenagers. The setting was fantastic. Start a little later next year. JUNIOR ROYALTY: The program went very well. Graham will continue as chair. TABLOID: Excellent ICE CREAM SOCIAL: Bridgemans wants to get involved next year. HIDE-A-KEY: Still lack communication with historical society. NEW BUSINESS: a. The 1990 EBD dates are June 20-24. b. Alford will resign from board of directors as of July 10, 1989. She will help the new chair. c. Many board members' terms will expire as of 12/31/89. Bergeland will call them to see if they are interested in continuing.
