HomeMy WebLinkAbout2006-049 CCRadoption: Member Kay Lasman RESOLUTION NO. introduced the following resolution and moved its 2006-49 RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING TRANSFER OF FUNDS FROM THE STORM SEWER UTILITY FUND TO PROVIDE FOR THE REDUCTION OF CHLORIDE USE FOR SNOW AND ICE CONTROL OPERATIONS WHEREAS, the use of chloride based snow and ice control materials has become an environmental concern of the City of Brooklyn Center due to the recent Total Maximum Daily Load requirements established by the Shingle Creek Watershed Management Commission; and WHEREAS, the cost of chloride based snow and ice control materials has increased substantially over the past five years; and WHEREAS, the Brooklyn Center City Council desires to reduce the overall amount of chloride based snow and ice control (road salt) materials while generally maintaining the current maintenance levels for local streets; and WHEREAS, City Vehicle No. 11 consisting of a snow plow truck, dump body and road salt distribution equipment is scheduled for replacement in 2006; and WHEREAS, new equipment technology is available to provide for a reduction in the use of chloride based snow and ice control materials by improving the accuracy and efficiency of distributing road salt materials from the City's snow plow truck fleet; and WHEREAS, the cost of said road salt distribution equipment should be funded from the City's Storm Sewer Utility Fund. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Brooklyn Center, Minnesota that the City Manager is hereby authorized to purchase new salt distribution equipment for City Vehicle No. 11 in the amount of $10,400, said cost shall be funded by a transfer from the Storm Sewer Utility Fund to the Central Garage Fund.
