APPROVAL OF MINUTES FEBRUARY 14. 1986
There was a motion by Commissioner Jensen and seconded by
Commissioner Haroldson to approve the minutes of the February 14,
1986 Housing Commission meeting. The motion passed unanimously.
YEAR 2000 REVIEW
Chairman Felger introduced the next agenda item by indicating
that he felt there was need for the Commission to acquire a
database upon which the Commission could make recommendations to
the Council about future housing programs. Brad Hoffman
reviewed the Year 2000 concept and the direction given to the
Commission by the Council indicated that the Council has asked
the Commission to look at the City's housing stock and what
programs might become necessary in the future. Phil Cohen
indicated any programs developed would be dependant upon who
lives in the houses at the time. He indicated there is a need to
coordinate elderly housing with other programs. He further
stated that he felt that the Commission should be looking for
overall coordinated programs throughout the City. He added that
he felt that in order to accomplish that, we needed to examine a
lot of data and understand the implications of the data.
Commissioner Haroldson emphasized what he considered to be a need
for a point of sale inspection ordinance in Brooklyn Center.
Phil Cohen indicated that he would like the Housing Commission to
become acquainted with the Metropolitan Council reports.
Brad Hoffman then reviewed a list of suggestions he made for the
development of the database and items that he felt were necessary
in order to make recommendations for any housing programs in
Brooklyn Center. The Housing Commission then reviewed the list
and added to it. Following the development of a database list, a
general discussion then ensued relative to possible housing
programs. Ron Turner inquired if we were capable of determining
the needs for handicapped in Brooklyn Center. Dolores Hastings
indicated that the City might want to consider zoning to
encourage shared housing. It's agreed that Brad Hoffman
wouldbring a demographic profile, done by Quality Decisions Inc.,
for the next meeting for the review of the Commissioners.
