HomeMy WebLinkAbout1987 09-15 HCM MINUTES OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE HOUSING COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF BROOKLYN CENTER IN THE COUNTY OF HENNEPIN AND THE STATE OF MINNESOTA REGULAR SESSION SEPTEMBER 15, 1987 CITY HALL CALL TO ORDER The Brooklyn Center Housing Commission met in regular session and was called to order by Chairman Ken Felger at 7:34 p.m. ROLL CALL Chairman Felger, Commissioners Ray Haroldson, Barb Jensen, Cliff Williams, and Todd Paulson. Also present were HRA Coordinator Brad Hoffman. Commissioner Phil Cohen and Councilmember Rich Theis were excused from this evening's meeting. HOUSING SURVEY The HRA Coordinator provided each of the commission members with copies of the drive -by survey of Brooklyn Center's housing stock that had been conducted over the summer. He reviewed each of the categories of the survey with the commission members and stated the survey indicated signific &nt levels of deterioration within Brooklyn Center's housing stock. A discussion then ensued relative to the implications of the survey. Commissioner Jensen inquired about the possibility of a direct contact followup to find out or determine a need for various City programs. The HRA Coordinator indicated there may be some value to doing a cross reference between the homes and the grant experience. Commissioner Jensen further indicated perhaps it would be interesting to also cross reference the findings with homesteaded versus nonhomesteaded properties. Chairman Felger inquired as to when the survey had been conducted. The HRA Coordinator indicated the survey was over a six month period from approximately March through August of 1987 PP Y g g and the survey was a drive-by There was a motion b Y Y y Commissioner Jensen and seconded by Commissioner Haroldson to make the public aware of the problems as determined by the survey. The motion passed unanimously. A discussion then ensued relative to the potential or various ways in which people could be made aware of the survey results. There was a consensus of the commissioner members that the information be made available for the spring issue of the City Manager's Newsletter. They also asked that a brief summary be provided in the next City Manager's Newsletter.
