HomeMy WebLinkAbout1992-03 02-10 CCO CITY OF BROOKLYN CENTER Notice is hereby given that a public hearing will be held on the 10th day of February 19 92 at 7:15 p.m. at the City Hall, 6301 Shingle Creek Parkway to consider an amendment to Chapter 34 of the City Ordinances regarding wall and freestanding signs in the C2, I -1 and I -2 zoning districts. ORDINANCE NO. 92 -03 AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 34 OF THE CITY ORDINANCES REGARDING WALL AND FREESTANDING SIGNS IN THE C2, I -1 AND I -2 ZONING DISTRICTS THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BROOKLYN CENTER DOES ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Chapter 34 of the City Ordinances of the City of Brooklyn Center is hereby amended in the following manner: SECTION 34 -140. PERMITTED SIGNS. 3. Permitted Sians Reauirina a Permit A. Commercial (C2) and Industrial (I -1 and I -2) Districts 1. Wall Signs and Projecting Signs. a. Individual Establishments Individual detached establishments or enterprises not clustered in a shopping center complex or in a multitenant office or industrial building may have wall signs and projecting signs on each wall, provided the aggregate area of such signs does not exceed [30] 15% of the area of the wall supporting the signs. b. Clustered Establishments Attached establishments or enterprises clustered in a shopping center complex or in a multitenant office or industrial building may have wall signs and projecting signs subject to the following: ORDINANCE NO. 92 -03 is i. Each establishment or enterprise may have such signs on each of its exterior walls, provided the aggregate area of such signs does not exceed [30] 15% of the wall supporting the signs; ii. In lieu of the above, the aggregate of the establishments or enterprises may have a wall or projecting sign on each wall identifying the tenants collectively, or identifying the complex or building; provided the area of each sign does not exceed [30] 15% of the area of the wall supporting it. 2. Freestanding Signs d. Wall Freestandina Sian Tradeoff An individual or clustered establishment may be entitled to one additional freestandina identification sian if the buildina owner, or a dulv authorized aaent. aarees in writina to foreao all permitted wall sians and the additional freestandina sian is consistent with the followina standards: 1. The additional freestandina sian shall consist of individual letters or cutouts. each affixed to a masonry retaining or landscape tvpe wall structure which is no hiaher than 6' above around level: 2. The masonry retainina or landscape type wall structure may not be located in the reauired areenstrin area or a Darkina lot and must be within 50' of one of the walls of the DrinciDal buildina on the propert 3. The area of the individual letters or cutouts which are affixed to the masonry retainina or landscape tvDe wall structure may not exceed 1/3 of the area of the permitted freestandina sian allowed for the Dronerty. per Table 34A of this ordinance: and 4. The individual letters or cutouts may not be internallv lit. or backlit. and may only be illuminated by indirect liahts such as a sDotliaht or floodliaht which is consistent with Section 35 -712 of the Citv Ordinances. ORDINANCE NO. 92 -03 Section 2. This ordinance shall become effective after adoption and upon thirty (30) days following its legal publication.
