The regular meeting of the Discover The Center Board of Directors was called to order by
Chairperson Rod Synder at 8:15 in Conference Room B of City Hall.
Members present: Rod Synder, Bernie Gaffney, Cathy Ballot, Mary Welch, Karen Youngberg,
John Jackson. Absent Deanna McCarthy, Pat Laniel & Rochelle Raph
Due to a total breakdown of my systems - both computer and note taking
and filing system - I was unable to find the notes I took for this meeting.
I am writing these minutes to the best of my ability and memory.
The minutes and the treasurers report were approved by motions made,
seconded and carried.
COMMUNICATION GROUP
Bernie gave a report on the communication group. They still plan to do a column
in the Sun Post and in the city newsletter. Bernie was also hoping to have an update on
the phone use from the city at our next meeting.
Rod Snyder has sent out his newsletter. Newsletter was well done except for the
print being small. We hope Rod will do another letter. grams.
GRANT APPLICATION FROM CITY
The city council decided not to give us any funds for the 1997 calender year. This
was due to budget constraints. Mike McCauley will try and work with us on programs if
it is possible. Mary felt that our request should have been put in the Community
Development budget and not with the other requests for funds. There was general
agreement with her, but it is too late for 1997.

COMMUNITY SUMMIT TASK FORCE
The Community Summit was held on Oct 29. It was a rainy night, but we still
had very good attendance. About 25 people came out. Some were representing more
than 1 organization. Very positive feedback about the need for something like this.
We will plan a follow, up summit in Jan or.Feb 1997.
Mary reported that with our status as a 50106 organization that we are not
considered an organization that can get tax deductible donations, but we can get
deductions from business as a business expense. This will effect our fundraising.
BUDGET AND FINANCE
The Finance group will continue to meet with an update at the Dec. meeting.
MEETING START TIME AND DAY
The Board decided by consensus that 8:15 was a good time to start our meetings.
The second Wednesday of the month will be easier for our members to attend. Karen .
will schedule this with the city.
OTHER BUSINESS
None that I can remember.
The board adjourned at 9:45 pm to reopen on Dec. 11, at 8:15 am.
