Kickoff Meeting
Summary Notes
July 6, 1995
Present
Karen Youngberg, Charles Adkisson, Maynard Oss and Terri Swanson
Walk /Fun Run
Karen Youngberg gave and overview of the walk/run. Forty-one people participated in the
10K run and 1 mile fun run, and approximately 30 peopled walked. The subcommittee met
and are excited to hold the race again next year. Some suggestions made were:
*have the walk and run end in the same place
• start the walk from behind the community center
• inform community center staff of the race's location
• have the 1 mile fun run and the walk start at the same time
• start the run at 8:30
•be better organized with regards to money and registration
*have specially -made t -shirts with 10K on them
*have all participants pay whether or not they receive a t -shirt
*costs to include:
$10 if pre- register
$12 registration day of run/walk
$ 3 for those who want to walk but not receive a t -shirt
• map out the walk
• meet in October to start planning
• solicit sponsors early
Bingo Card
The group made some overall suggestions for the bingo card contest:
• start earlier to include more people
*put a headline on the bingo card to encourage more people to participate: "Win a weekend
for two at the Inn on the Farm"
*don't include places that are only open specific hours like the Substation and firehouses
*put the Discover the Center logo on the bingo card
• offer discounts for this year's participants to get them to participate next year
• start planning and seeking donations in April
Activity Committee
The group decided that they wanted to officially become the Activity Committee for the
Discover the Center campaign. This means that the committee will plan activities like the
. walk/run and the bingo card contest, as well as other events designed to offer fun and

encourage community spirit while promoting the campaign and fundraising.

The next activity that the committee would like to sponsor is a winter golf tournament and
family festival. Community Ed District 286 will cosponsor the golf tournament. Suggestions
for the event include: businesses sponsor holes, treasure hunt or scavenger hunt, hobby
events, sell booths, get sport equipment sellers to sponsor some events. The activity
committee decided to meet September 21 to plan the event which will take place at the end of
January.
The next meeting of the Activitity Committee is Thursday, September 21 at 7 p.m.
