HomeMy WebLinkAbout1995 06-09 Minutes Rallies Meeting MINUTES / RALLIES meeting June 9, 1995 Present: Mary Welch, Rod Snyder, Chuck G. , . , ; . 1, Karen Youngberg, Bob Peppe, Ghmy Belden Mary distributed the magnets prepared with the logo and the data for the rallies. She reported that 1000 were ordered for a cost of about $612. Mary slated that the steering committee recommended that the invitations for the rallies be consistent with the theme - "We the people...". A buckskin paper with burnt edges and a gold seal would be more appropriate than the red barn. Chuck said he would look Into the availability and the cost of such paper. Mary also reported that the steering committee Is working on a softball event that would be used for positive publicity. The evert would be a competitive game between the city staffs of Brooklyn Center and Brooklyn Park. The date Is scheduled for Sunday, July 30. Details are being worked onk Chuck distributed a draft of a flyer promoting the rallies. Several suggestions were made and Chuck will make the revisions prior to the Steering Committee meeting on June 16. At that tine, the . , .. , , .: i , ; .. will give final approval and the flyers will then be ready for distribution at Earle Brown Days. AN agreed the flyers will be done on white paper using the correct PMS ink colors for the printing. It was agreed that we want to distribute these flyers through the city newsletter, the schools, mailings, etG, so all agreed we creed to order 10,000. Rod suggested we also make them bite posters so there would be a more permanent reminder in prominent places throughout the summer. Chuck agreed to donate the cost of printing and typesetting. Cost to the campaign will be for !raper only. Ghmy Belden was introduced and a discussion of the format and the logistical needs of the raffles was held. Ghmy emphasized the following points: PROMOTION: 1. One- on-one efforts are the most effective. 2. Being dear on why we are having the rallies is Imperative. 3. Diverse: „ „ , J , Is very''. , J on the planning committee. After discussion, bt was dedded that this committee should consist of a rep from each of the groups we are attempting to target. Perry Watson, Mary Ziskovsky, and the Horsing and the Human Rights commissions will be contacted to help us fill the < < , —2 .s. FACILITATORS: 1. They must be neutral and not directive. 2. Experienced facilitators will be most effective. 3. IYs most beneficial to pair up facilitators In one group. 4. They must be committed to the time involved for training. After discussion, tt was d. � w .... ; i :. J that we would have a day of training In mid-Sept- the specific day to be determined by consensus of the facilitators. It was also determined that we would need at least 12, preferably 20 trained fadlitators. Sources for acquiring these people would be volunteers from Come Home to the Park, the North Hennepin Leadership Academy, and the MN Facilitators Network. Members of the steering committee and the rally sub - committee would be invited to come to the training, but the actual facilitating would be done by people from outside the campaign. Our next meeting with Ginny will be in Aug. and the agenda will include working on the details of the agenda for the training meeting and the raffles, as well as updates on the promotion The sub - committee will meet July . The agenda will include: 1) acquisition of facilitators, 2) listing specific community ceders to invite 3) delegating responsibilities for letters, calls, etc. 4)
