Youngberg, Kristen Mann, Sue LaCrosse, Terri Swanson
Walk /Run with Community Education
Karen Youngberg will chair subcommittee which includes Will, Debbie Diamond and Shawn
Reilly of community ed and Terri. Ideas for the run include: course to include Brookdale
Center and the trail behind city hall; Brookdale to be used as a pit stop; solicit Brookdale
tenants like Champs and Footlocker to sponsor the walk; use a professional to plan the event
if it includes a long distance run since that type of competition requires lots of detail; give
participants t- shirts for their entry fee. The subcommittee will meet to plan details and when
ready will initiate participation from other school district community education departments.
Bingo cards
Many ideas were bounced around including a button program like during the St. Paul Winter
Carnival and a treasure hunt. After discussion, the group thought the best idea for us would
be to have a bingo card contest where businesses pay a certain fee to have a square on a
bingo card. Residents would then purchase a card and take that card to the different
businesses on the card for a stamp. Once their card is complete, residents could then use this
card as an entry into a drawing, perhaps for a weekend stay at the Inn on the Farm. Kristen
Mang will be in charge of this subcommittee. Terri suggested that she contact Char Waughtel
to help her with this effort.
Press conference /publicity
Terri stated that she plans to hold a press conference before the parade regarding the
promotional campaign and Earle Brown Days. She mentioned that she would like to have
someone at each event to promote the campaign and to hand out stickers. Members of the
committee mentioned that they will be at almost all of the Earle Brown Days events and that
at a later date we can put a schedule together of who will be in charge of each event. The
group decided to distribute decals of the logo so that people can display them on the windows
of their cars homes
or businesses. Swanson will check the cost.
Parade
The chamber of commerce has offered to sponsor the float. Steve Bowling of Brookdale
Center will be in charge of this effort.
The next meeting will be Monday, May 1 at 7 p.m. in city hall.
Other
Maynard suggested that sometime we hold a contest for the best landscaped house, business
and apartment or apartment complex. He also commented on the excellent response time of
our police dep[artment. Other important points that people suggested to include in our
publicity effort included interviews with realtors, all- volunteer fire department and our
personable dispatchers.
The next meeting will be Monday, May 1 at 7 p.m. in city hall.
