HomeMy WebLinkAbout1969-08 04-07 CCO ORDINANCE N0. 69 -8 AN ORDINANCE REQUIRING THE INSTALLATION OF FIRE EXTINGUISHING SYSTEMS IN STRUCTURES ERECTED IN CERTAIN i ZONING DISTRICTS THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BROOKLYN CENTER DOES ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS: Section 1: Chapter 3 of the City Ordinances is hereby amended by the addition thereto of the following: Section 3- 102.7. Fire Extinquishinq System Required. Every story, basement, or cellar in every building hereafter erected in the I -1 (Industrial Park), I -2 (General Industry), C -1 (Service/ Office), C1A (Service /Office), C -2 (Commerce) zoning districts shall have installed and be equipped with an automatic fire extinguishing system which system shall comply with provisions of Chapter 38 Uniform Building_ Code, Volume 1. The fire extinguishing system shall be connected to the City of Brooklyn Center Remote Station Fire Alarm stem according to the provisions of Sections 5 -501 through 5 -505 of the Ordinances and shall remain so connected and maintained during the life of the building, or so long_ as the municipal alarm system is available. EXCEPTION: Buildings having a gross floor area less than 2000 square feet shall not be required to install a fire extinguishing system, provided each story of the building has at least twenty square feet (20 sq. ft.) of opening above grade in each segment of fifty lineal feet (50 lin. ft.) of exterior wall on at least one side of the building. Section 2: This ordinance shall become effective after adoption and thirty days following its legal publication.
