ORDINANCE NO. 68 -2
AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 3 OF THE CITY ORDINANCES
BY REPEALING PORTIONS THEREOF AND ADDING PORTIONS THERETO
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BROOKLYN CENTER DOES ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1: Chapter 3 of the City Ordinances is hereby amended by the
repeal of the following sections:
(Section 3 -108. 1. For any permit for the erection of any buildings or
structures other than commercial and industrial buildings and buildings of
public assemblage or for the erection of any addition for similar occupancy
to any existing building, the fees so charged shall for each such building
or addition included in such permit be based on the cubical contents of
each building or addition, and shall be at the rate of $3.00 for the first
1,000 cubic feet or fraction thereof and $.75 for each additional 1,000 cubic
feet or fraction thereof, of space within the proposed structure.)
(Section 3- 108.2. For any such permit for the erection of a commercial
or industrial building or buildings of public assemblage or for the erection of
any addition or similar occupancy to any existing building, a fee shall be
charged at the rate of $1.10 for every 1, 00 0 cubic feet or fraction thereof of
space within the proposed structure.)
(Section 3 -109. PLAN CHECKING FEES. When the valuation of the
proposed construction (except one and two family dwellings, and structures
accessory thereto) exceeds $1,000.00 and a plan is required to be submitted
by Section 301 (c) of the U.B.C. , a plan checking fee shall be paid to the
Village Clerk at the time of submitting plans and specifications for checking.
Said plan checking fee shall be as indicated on this accompanying table 3 -A.

(Section 3 -801. ELECTRICAL INSPECTOR. There is hereby created
the office of the electrical inspector, as an Assistant Building Inspector of
the Village. The person chosen to fill the office of electrical inspector shall
be a competent electrician of good moral character and shall have had at
least two years' experience as a journeyman in the practice of his trade or
two years' training in a recognized college of electrical engineering, shall be
well versed in approved methods of electrical construction for safety of life
and property, the statues of the State of Minnesota relating to electrical work,
the rules and regulations issued by the Industrial Commission of Minnesota
and the Railroad and Warehouse Commission of Minnesota under authority of
the statutes, the National Electrical Code as approved by the American
Engineering Standards Committee, and the National Electrical Safety Code,
as approved by the American Engineering Standards Committee.)
(Section 3 -804 (b). The applicant, except an individual doing work on
his own homestead, shall first file with the Village Clerk certificates of
insurance issued by a company or companies duly licensed to do business in
the State of Minnesota which shall be written on the comprehensive liability
form and shall include manufacturers and contractors liability, independent
contractors liability products and completed operations liability, automobile
liability including employers non - ownership liability in not less than the
following amounts:
Bodily injury liability:
$100,000.00 each person
$300, 000.00 forinjuries as the result of any one occurrence
Property damage liability:
$ 50, 000.00 each accident
$100,000.00 aggregate
Automobile liability:
Bodily injury:
$100,000.00 each person
$300,000.00 each occurrence
Property Damage:
$ 50, 000.00 each occurrence

Any such evidence or certificate of certificates shall provide that it
may not be cancelled by the insurer except upon ten days written notice to
the Village of Brooklyn Center. In case of cancellation of such insurance,
such license shall be suspended automatically until such insurance has
been replaced. 4- 11 -66)
(Section 3- 807.2. CONSTRUCTION REQUIREMENTS. Electric wiring,
apparatus, plants and installation shall be in strict conformity with the
provisions of this ordinance, the statutues of the State of Minnesota and the
rules and regulations issued by the Railroad and Warehouse Commission of
Minnesota under authority of the state statutes, and in conformity with the
1960 Electrical Ordinance of the City of Minneapolis as published and
promulgated in pamphlet form insofar as the same related to the construction
requirements which are set forth therein, three copies of which shall be kept
on file in the Village Office, Department of Building. 9- 26 -60)
(Section 3 -818. ELECTRICAL FEES. The fee for permits for the
installation of any electrical work, wiring, or device shall conform to the
electrical fee schedule as contained in the pamphlet entitled ELECTRICAL
ORDINANCE - CITY OF MINNEAPOLIS 1960 Edition, which pamphlet contained
the ordinance adopted by the City of Minneapolis, and which is hereby adopted
by reference. Three copies of said ordinance shall be kept on file in the
Village Office, Department of Buildings.)
(Section 3 -819. PLUMBING FEES. The fee for permits for the installation
of any plumbing work, fixture or device shall conform to the fee schedule set
forth in Section 203.011 through 204.030 of the City Ordinances of the City
of Minneapolis as contained in "Appendix C" of the pamphlet entitled, "PLUMBING,
WATER AND GAS PIPING ORDINANCES- - CITY OF MINNEAPOLIS, 1964", and
said portion of "Appendix C" is hereby adopted by reference. Three copies of
the aforementioned pamphlet shall be kept on file in the office of the Village
Clerk. 6 -7 -65)
Section 2: Chapter 3 of the City Ordinances is hereby amended by the
addition of the following:
Section 3- 108.1. Yoe any permit for the erection of any building, or for
the erection of any addition to any existing building, the fees so charged shall,
for each building or addition included in such permit, be based on the cubical
contents of each buildinq or addition. and shall be at the rate of $1.50 for each
1,000 cubic feet, or fraction thereof, of space within the proposed building.

Exception: Where a complex of identical buildings are to be
constructed by the same contractor and a single set of plans
are used for all the buildings in the complex, the plan checking
fee shall be applied to the first building permit only and any
subsequent building permit issued within one year from date of
first issuance, shall not be subject to any plan check fee.
Section 3 -801. ELECTRICAL INSPECTOR. There is hereby created the
office of the electrical inspector, as an assistant Building Inspector of the
City. The person chosen to fill the office of electrical inspector shall be a
licensed master or journeyman electrician under Section 326.242, Subdivision
1 (1) or Subdivision 2 (1) of the Minnesota Electrical Act as passed by the 1967
Legislature. The Electrical Inspector may not otherwise engage or be employed
in the sale or installation of electrical wiring, devices, applicances or
equipment, and shall have no financial interest in any concern engaged in any
such business.
Section 3 -804 (b). The applicant. except an individual doing work on
his own homestead, shall first file with the City Clerk one copy of his current
Electrical Contractor's License" which is issued by the Minnesota State Board
of Electricity.

Section 3- 807.2. CONSTRUCTION REQUIREMENTS. Electric wiring„

Provisions of this ordinance, the statutes of the State of Minnesota and
the rules and regulations issued by the Railroad and Warehouse Commission
of Minnesota under authority of the state statutes, and in conformity with the 1966
Electrical Ordinance of the City of Minneapolis as published and promulgated in
Pamphlet form insofar as the same related to the construction requirements which
are set forth therein, three copies of which shall be kept on file in the City
Office, Department of Building.

of any electrical work, wirina, or device shall conform to the electrical fee
schedule as set forth in Sec. 202.010 and 202. 140 in the pamphlet entitled
FEE ORDINANCE - CITY OF MINNEAPOLIS 1967 EDITION, which pamphlet
` contains the ordinance adopted by the City of Minneapolis , and which is
hereby adopted by reference. Three copies of paid ordinance shall be kept
on file in the City Office, Department of Buildings.
Section 3 -819. PLUMBING FEES. The fee for permits for the installation
of any plumbinq work, water distribution system, gas piping, plumbing fixture
or device shall conform to the fee schedule set forth in Sections 203. 010
• through 204.030 of the ordinances of the City of Minneapolis as contained in
the pamphlet entitled FEE ORDINANCE - CITY OF MINNEAPOLIS 1967 EDITION
which pamphlet contains the ordinance adopted by the City of Minneapolis,
and which is hereby adopted by reference. Three copies of said ordinance
shall be kept on file in the City Offices, Department of Buildings.
Section 3: This ordinance shall become effective after adoption and
thirty days following its legal publication.
