adoption:
RESOLUTION NO. 2002-135
RESOLUTION DECLARING OCTOBER 10, 2002, AS LIGHTS ON AFTER
SHOOL DAY
WHEREAS, the community of Brooklyn Center stands firmly committed to quality after
school programs; and
WHEREAS, after school programs provide a safe, friendly learning environment for our
children that boosts their academic achievement; and
WHEREAS, after school programs support working families by ensuring that their
children are safe and productive after the regular school day ends; and
WHEREAS, after school programs build stronger communities by involving our students,
parents, and business leaders in the lives of our young people; and
WHEREAS, Brooklyn Center has provided significant leadership in the area of
community involvement in the well-being of our youth, grounded in the principle that quality after
school programs are a critical link to helping our children become successful adults; and
WHEREAS, Lights On After School, a national celebration of after school programs on
October 10, promotes the critical importance of quality after school programs in the lives of children,
their families and their communities.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of
Brooklyn Center that October 10, 2002, is designated Lights On After School Day.

The motion for the adoption of the foregoing resolution was duly seconded by member
Tim Ricker
and upon vote being taken thereon, the following voted in favor thereof
Myrna Kragness,. Kay Lasman, Ed Nelson, Bob.Peppe, and Tim Ricker;
and the following voted against the same: none;
whereupon said resolution was declared duly passed and adopted.
