ORDINANCES
THE VILLAGE COUNCIL OF THE VILLAGE OF BROOKLYN CENTER ORDAINS AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. Section 17 -116, Subsection A, shall be amended to read
as follows:
Section 17 -116. VACATION LEAVE.
A. How Much. Each permanent employee shall earn vacation leave
at the rate of 5/6 of one working day for each calendar month of full -time
service or major fraction thereof. Any employee with five years of service
shall earn vacation leave at the rate of one and one - fourth (1 1/4) working
days for each calendar month of full -time service or major fraction thereof.
Section 2. Section 17 -116, Subsection C, shall be amended to read
as follows:
C. Accrual. Employees with less than five years of service may
accrue vacation leave to a maximum of fifteen (15) working days. Employees
with five years or more of service may accrue vacation leave to a maximum
of twenty (20) working days. In the event an employee has been unable to
take advantage of vacation leave as earned with the result that said
employee has accumulated the maximum number of vacation days to which he
is entitled, he may absent himself from work with notice to take vacation
leave and thus prevent the loss of vacation leave beyond the maximum.
Section 3. Section 17 -117, Subsection B, shall be amended to
read as follows:
Section 17 -117, SICK LEAVE
B. Accrual. Sick leave may be granted only for absence from
duty because of personal illness, legal quarantine, or death or serious
illness in the immediate family. Sick leave shall be computed on a calen-
dar year basis and may be accumulated to a total of not more than 100 days.
Workman's Compensation benefits shall be credited against the compensation
due an employee during sick leave.
Section 4. A new subsection F shall be added to Section 17 -117,
said subsection to read as follows:
F. Severance Pay. Severance pay in the amount of one - fourth
(1/4) the accumulated sick leave an employee has to his credit at the time
of resignation or retirement shall be paid, providing an employee has been
employed for at least five (5) years. In the event of discharge for cause,
no severance pay shall be allowed.
Section 5. Section 17 -121, subsection B, shall be amended to
read as follows:

B. The following legal holidays shall be observed as paid holidays
for Village employees:
New Year's Day Labor Day
Lincoln's Birthday Columbus Day
Washington's Birthday Armistice Day
Good Friday Thanksgiving Day
Memorial Day Christmas Day

Independence Day
When New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, or Christmas
Day fall on Sunday, the following day shall be observed as a
holiday. When they fall on Saturday, the preceding day shall be
observed as a holiday. An employee who is absent from work on
the day following or the day preceding such a three -day holiday
weekend without the express authorization of the Administrative
Officer shall forfeit his right to holiday pay for that holiday.
All employees who are required to be on duty on any holiday
shall be paid time and one -half for the hours worked in addition
to the holiday pay.
Section 6. This ordinance shall be in full force and effect from
and after its legal publication
