AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE BUILDING CODE
OF THE VILLAGE OF BROOKLYN CENTER
TO ESTABLISH SPACE REQUMMMS FOR
DWELLINGS AND APARTMENTS
THE VILLAGE COUNCIL OF THE VITIA E OF BROOKLYN CENTER DO ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
1. Section 3-301 of Clapter 3 of the Village Ordinances is hereby
amended to read as follows:
Section 3-301- SPECIFICATIONS, The provisions of the Uniform Building
Code, 195b Edition, Second Printing, published by the Pacific Coast Building
Officials ConPerence, three copies of which are on file in the village office,
is hereby adopted as the official Building Code of the Village of Brooklyn
Center., and is hereby incorporated in and made a part of Chapter 3 of the
Village Ordinances as completely as if set out here in full. All construction
in the Village of Brooklyn Center shall be according to the provisions of
said Building Code and any other provisions of this ordinance*
A. Single and Two Family Dwellings. Living units in single and two
family dwellings shall have a minimum first floor area of not less than 768
square feet for each unit containingtwo bedrooms or less if such dwellings
shall also have a full basement and without a full basement shall have a
minimum first floor area of not less than 850 square feet for each unit
containing two bedrooms, or less. Living units in single and two family
dwellings containing three bedrooms shall have a minimum first floor area of
not less than 912 square feet, and when there are four bedrooms shall have a
minimum first floor area of not less than 1152 square feet,
Bo Apartments. Living units in buildings containing three or more such
units shall have the following minimum floor area per living unit:
Efficiency Apartments 400 square feet
1 Bedroom Apartments 600 square feet
2 Bedroom Apartments 720 square feet
Apartments with 3 or more bedrooms 120 square feet for each
additional bedroom over 2
The minimum area specified above for multiple living unit buildings shall not
include area occupied by stairs., halls, entryways and utility rooms, and not
more than 15% of said minimum area shall be occupied by closet space.
No such multiple living unit building shall have a number of efficiency
apartment units exceeding 20% of the total number of units in said building*
2. This ordinance shall be effective from and after its passage and
• publication.
