HomeMy WebLinkAbout1957-22 07-23 CCO 4 f � I 9 k AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE BUILDING CODE OF THE VILLAGE OF BROOKLYN CENTER BY PROVIDING FOR THE LICENSING OF GAS FITTERS AND PROVIDING STANDARDS F02 THE INSTALLATION OF GAS SYSTEMS THE VILLAGE COUNCIL OF THE GRILLAGE Or BROOKLYN CENTER DO ORDAIN: Section 1. Sections 3 -811, --813, 3 -814, and 3 -815 of the Ordinances of the Village of Brooklyn Center are hereby repealed. Section 2. In place of the numbered sections which are hereby repealed, there shall be added the new sections which shall be entitled and shall read as follows: „ Section _ -811. PEF.,1 IT F ;OUI .E.'D. �. No person, firm or corporation shall hereafter install, alter maintain or repair any system for the use of illuminating or fuel gas or installing, altering, re- pairing, or servicing any gas burning device connected thereto in or for any building or structure in the Village of proo-lyn renter without first obtaining a permit therefor." "Section -81 ". LICENSING. Zo'_person _'r rm or corporation shall engage in the business of installing, altering or repairing any system for the use of illuminating or fuel gas or in the installation, altering, or repairing of any gas burning device connected thereto with- out first having procured a license therefor as herein pro- vided.., except that a person, firm or corporation duly licensed as a plumber by the - illage of Brooklyn Center shall not recuire any further license to engage in such worX. Licenses shall be issued only to individuals or contractors who show a thorough understanding of the laars and regulations governing the instal- lation of illuminating or fuel gas systems and gas burning de- vices and who demonstrate sufficient I -mowledge, will and train- ing to enable them to carry on the wort_ of installing, maintaining, and altering illuminating or fuel gas systems and gas burning devices. Application for licenses shall be made to the Village Council and such license shall 'be granted by a majority vote of the Council upon proof of the applicant's ualifications therefor and upon filing a bond in the amount of <,:2,000.00 (Two Thousand and no conditioned upon compliance with the pro- visions of the !.'illage ordinances. Any person, firm or corp- oration holding a Class r= gas fitters license from the City of ?Minneapolis shall be deemec prima facie ° uali fiec< to obtain a license from the Village of �roolyn Center. The annual fee for J - 2 - such license to engage in such business shall be -.GC (Twenty - five and no_'10 and ]_ :.CO (- fifteen and no,`100), for renewal thereafter which li.:ense shall expire on April. 0 ne::t follow - ing the date of its issuance. A person, firm or corporation en- gaged in the business of installing or repairing heating plants who is duly licensed for such purposes by the :'illage shall not re,uire a license under this section to install such heating systems involti the use of gas." "Section -81 CONDriT.UC^1ION _ EE 11 NTS. i rc)air or alteration of any gas system for illuminating or fuel purposes, and every installation, repair or alteration of any gas burning device connected thereto shall be made in :onformity with the provisions of the Minneapolis ordinance relating to the installation of gas systems and. gas burning ;-'evices as set forth in the publL.:ation entitled 'PLtTfi AND GAS PIPING OSDINANCL'S AND ''CErPTS ?Oi' 0 , 0;'1 '1S AND REGULATIONS' as published 'by the Department of Euildings of the City of T: "inneapolis in 1 19 and as amended by the ordinances published Ivarch l-', 19507, which ordinances insofar as they relate to construction re-yuire- ments are hereby adopted by reference and three copies of which shall be teat on file in the office of the Village Clerk. All installations shall also conform to all rules and regulations of the state fire marshal." "Section - _81 1- -O. CO:'-"=CTIUN 0,: UNSA - CONDITIONS. r The bui g inspector and the Village fire marshall are hereby empowered to cause any illuminating or fuel gas system or any gas burning device connected thereto to be shut off whenever they shall find that such system or de- vice does not comply with the r-- ;uirements of the 'vilbge ordinances or whene��er the system for any reason presents an immediate hazard to life or property. They may attach a warning tag to such system which states that such system is in - .-iolation of the Village ordinances or constitute an immediate hazard. It shall be unlawful for any person to cause such system to be placer' in use thereafter until it shall be appro by the build ng inspector in ;siting."
