HomeMy WebLinkAbout1986 03-12 HRRMMINUTES OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF BROOKLYN CENTER IN THE COUNTY OF HENNEPIN AND THE STATE OF MINNESOTA REGULAR SESSION MARCH 12, 1986 CITY HALL CALL TO ORDER The Brooklyn Center Human Rights Commission met in regular session and was called to order by Vice Chair Mary Ellen Rabine at 7:31 p.m. ROLL CALL Commissioners Rabine, Misfeldt, Slupske, Sullivan, and Stoderl. Also present was Recording Secretary Geralyn Barone. Chairperson Kuhar was absent from the meeting due to illness, Commissioner Wallerstedt was not able to attend the meeting, and Councilmember Lhotka was on vacation. Commissioner Kieselhorst was absent from the meeting and was unexcused. APPROVAL OF MINUTES - JANUARY 15, 1986 There was a motion by commissioner Misfeldt and seconded by Commissioner Stoderl to approve the minutes of the January 15, 1986 meeting as submitted. The motion passed. INTRODUCTION OF NEW COMMISSIONER, Barone introduced Miss Lorna Seburg as the newest member of the Brooklyn Center Human Rights Commission. Commissioner Seburg provided a brief background of herself, and the other Commissioners introduced themselves, noting their involvement with the Human Rights Commission. Commissioner Seburg volunteered to serve on the Year 2000 subcommittee for establishing guidelines, and Commissioner Stoderl agreed to switch to the subcommittee for single parent families. REPORT ON INTERVENTION PROGRAM Commissioner Rabine reviewed the history and the beginnings of the Brooklyn Center Intervention Program. She stated that in its first two years, the program was funded from grants; now the City contributes money to support the program. Commissioner Rabine noted that the program is in need of women advocates, both to visit the victims' homes and to go to the Government Center to help obtain a protection order. YEAR 2000/ESTABLISHING GUIDELINES Barone explained that the subcommittee on establishing guidelines should consider developing a policy to handle funding requests from human services providers. She also suggested that a policy be developed for tracking the needs of the community by keeping in touch with, the various agencies that already conduct needs assessments. 3-12-86 -1- YEAR 2000/SINGLE PARENT FAXZJJFG Commissioner Rabine reviewed the progress of the subcommittee working on the single parent families issue.
