COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF BROOKLYN CENTER IN THE
COUNTY OF HENNEPIN AND THE STATE OF MINNESOTA
REGULAR SESSION
JANUARY 13, 1993
CITY HALL
CALL TO ORDER
The Brooklyn Center human rights and resources commission met in
regular session and was called to order by Chairperson Stoderl at
7:07 p.m.
ROLL CALL
Chairperson Stoderl, Commissioners Eoloff, Windsor, Carmody and
Achtelik. Also present was Recording Secretary Geralyn Barone.
Excused from this evening's meeting were Commissioners Brown and
Eckman.
SELECTION OF COMMISSION CHAIRPERSON
There was a motion by Commissioner Carmody and seconded by
Commissioner Eoloff to nominate Chairperson Stoderl to continue as
the chair of the human rights and resources commission. The
motion passed.
The commissioners agreed to wait to receive input from
commissioners Brown and Eckman before selecting a Vice-
Chairperson.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES - DECEMBER 16. 1992 AND JANUARY 6. 1993
There was a motion by Commissioner Carmody and seconded by
commissioner Windsor to approve the minutes of the December 161
1992 and January 6, 1993, meetings as submitted. The motion
passed.
JOINT MEETING OF CITY COUNCIL AND ADVISORY COMMISSIONS
The Recording Secretary distributed draft invitations and letters
to commission chairpersons for the February 10, 1993, joint
meeting of the city council and advisory commissions. The
commissioners discussed their conversations with the various
advisory commission chairs regarding what is most important in
life in general, what is your most important value, what is your
best memory of Brooklyn center, and what do you like most about
Brooklyn Center. Chairperson Stoderl said she would summarize the
information collected and put it in a format to be presented at
the joint meeting. She reviewed her comments that she will make
about the human rights and resources commission. The
commissioners requested the Recording Secretary to prepare a
program with the membership lists from each commission.

There was discussion regarding the format of the program, and it
was agreed there-would be no question and answer session, but
rather time for networking.
RECESS
The human rights and resources commission recessed at 8:37 P.M.
and reconvened at 8:42 p.m.
TRANSIT
Chairperson Stoderl suggested the commission should explore the
possibility of someone on this commission serving on the Success
By Six® transit committee.
UPDATE ON LEAGUE OF MINNESOTA HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSIONS ACTIVITIES
Commissioner Eoloff reviewed several handouts related to the
LMHRC.
UPDATE ON CHILDREN'S ISSUES
Commissioner Achtelik will report on this at the next meeting.
CULTURAL DIVERSITY
The commissioners agreed the information from GTS would be
reviewed and discussed at the next meeting. Commissioners Eoloff
and Carmody noted there is a program called "A World of
Difference" scheduled for January 16 at St. Alphonsus Church where
forms of racism and how you relate to others will be identified.
Commissioner Eoloff said there will be a round table on racism and
race relations sponsored by the Star Tribune at Brooklyn Center
High School on January 26.
HERITAGE FESTIVAL
Commissioner Eoloff noted the steering committee of the Heritage
Festival will meet the first Wednesday of every month from 4 to 5
p.m. She said at next month's meeting, timeline and budget will
be discussed.
NEXT COMMISSION MEETING
The commissioners agreed to set the next regular meeting of the
commission for March 3, 1993, and a second meeting in March was
tentatively scheduled for March 24, as needed.
ADJOURNMENT
There was a motion by Commissioner Carmody and seconded by
Commissioner Achtelik to adjourn the meeting. The motion passed.
The Brooklyn Center human rights and resources commission
adjourned at 9:14 p.m.
