HomeMy WebLinkAbout1993 01-06 HRRMMINUTES OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE HUMAN RIGHTS AND RESOURCES COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF BROOKLYN CENTER IN THE COUNTY OF HENNEPIN AND THE STATE OF MINNESOTA SPECIAL WORK SESSION JANUARY 6, 1993 CITY HALL The Brooklyn Center human rights and resources commission met in special session, convening at 5:40 p.m. Present were chairperson Stoderl, Commissioners Windsor, Brown, Eoloff, Achtelik and Carmody. Also present were city Councilmember Dave Rosene and Recording Secretary Geralyn Barone. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss details related to the February 10, 1993, joint meeting of the city council and advisory commissions. The Recording Secretary reviewed a draft of an invitation to the meeting, a letter to advisory commission chairpersons, and a special form for the chairpersons to follow for their presentations. It was suggested that the following individuals be invited to the meeting: Representative Phil Carruthers, Representative Lyndon Carlson, Senator Bill Luther, Senator Ember Reichgott, County Commissioner Mike Opat, and former City Councilmembers Phil Cohen and Jerry Pedlar. There were some minor adjustments made to the agenda that will allow for more questions, answers, and discussion. A separate letter for department heads will be drafted by the Recording Secretary, along with presentation guidelines for them. Northwest Community Television will be asked to tape the meeting for replay on cable television. The Recording Secretary will make arrangements for refreshments. Department heads will be asked to provide handouts, and folders will be distributed to participants at the meeting. Chairperson Stoderl suggested for her opening remarks she would like to solicit information from the advisory commission chairs and use this as a basis for her remarks. The questions that would be asked of the chairpersons include: What is most important in life in general to you? What is your most important value? What is your best memory of Brooklyn Center? What do you like most about Brooklyn Center? If you could do something to improve/change Brooklyn Center, what would you do?
