COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF BROOKLYN CENTER IN THE
COUNTY OF HENNEPIN AND THE STATE OF MINNESOTA
REGULAR SESSION
OCTOBER 15, 1975

Call to Order The Brooklyn Center Human Rights Commission met in
regular session and was called to order by Chairman Davis
at 7;35 p. m.
Roll Call Chairman Davis, Commissioners Tolve, Sugimura,
Blomberg, and Campion. Also present was AdministraL'v,e
Assistant Ron Warren.
Chairman Davis noted that Commissioners Martinsen and
Miller were both out of town and were excused from this
evening's meeting, and that Councilman Jensen would be
absent because of his required attendance at a Suburban
Rate Authority meeting. The Secretary noted that
Commissioner Weyrauch had notified him that he woul,3
be late for this evening's meeting.
Approval of Minutes Motion by Commissioner Sugimura and seconded by
9-10-75 Commi--inner Blomberg to approve the minutes of the
September 10, 1975 meeting. The motion passed unaaA,
mously.
Correspondence Chairman Davis introduced the first item of busines-
the agenda, a review of correspondence received si c-
the last Commission meeting, He reported that he hat
received notice that the Northwest Human Services Council
was holding discussions regarding the northwest area
being designated as a health care service area and that
they were soliciting opinions on this subject.
The Chairman noted that the Central Labor Union was
holding its annual Human Rights Conference at the
Normandy Hotel on Saturday, November 8, 1975, and
that Commission members were invited.
Report on League Commissioner Sugimura reported that she had attended
of Minnesota the League of Minnesota Human Rights Commission's
Human Rights October 7, 1975 meeting. She further reported that only
Commission four Human Rights Commissions were represented and that
the major thrust of the meeting was that it would be bene-
ficial to the local commissions to work more closely with
one another in attempting to solve common problems.
Commissioner Sugimura noted that membership dues for
the League of Minnesota Human Rights Commissions is
based on a community's population, and is assessed at
a rate of $3 per 1 , 000 population, with the dues primarily
entitling the member communities to research material.
Chairman Davis recognized Commissioners Campion and Accessibility
Blomberg who reported that they had contacted General Booklet Status
Mills regarding the final details of printing the accessibility Report
booklet. Commissioner Campion stated that the arrange-
ments for printing had been made, but before the Commission
could proceed decisions had to be made regarding a title for
the booklet, a choice of style and color for the booklet cover
and the type of map to be used in the booklet.
A lengthy discussion ensued relative to these points. Upon
conclusion of the discussion, it was the consensus of the
Commission that the title of the booklet should be "A Guide
for the Handicapped" , that the booklet cover be green in
color and contain the title, the international wheelchair symbol
and the words "City of Brooklyn Center" along the side of the
cover. It was further the consensus of the Commission that a
map containing the major thoroughfares of the City along with
the designated numbers of participating establishments be
included in the center of the booklet.
Chairman Davis stated that the booklet would be finalized,
printed and ready for distribution at the November 18, 1975
Commission meeting.
Motion by Commissioner Tolve and seconded by Commissioner Ad;l,ournment
Sugimura to adjourn the meeting. The motion passed u ani.-
mously . The Brooklyn Center Human Rights Commission
adjourned at 8:35 p.m.
