It was noted by the Chairman that Commissioners
Tolve and Martinsen would be unable to attend
this evening's meeting and had been excused.
Motion by CommisPiOner Weyrauch and seconded by
Commissioner Sugimura to approve the minutes of
the July 16, 1975 meeting. The motion passed
unanimously.
Chairman Davis noted the correspondence he had
received since the last Commission meeting. He
stated that two items were of particular interest.
One was a letter from the Northwest Communities
Group extending an invitation to participate in
the Northwest Communities Futu.ring '75 Workshop
to be held at the Brooklyn Center Civ c Center
on Thursday and Friday, October 23rd and 24th
He explained that the purpose of this workshop
is to get people working together on Northwest
Community projects to enhance the quality of life.
Chairman Davis requested Commissioner Sugimura
to farther check into this workshop to see if
it would be worthwhile to attend.
The second item of interest was a letter the
Chairman had received from Ms. Leah La Bar. He
stated that Ms. LaBar is confined to a wheelchair
but gives talks to and conducts workshops for
interested groups relating to handicapped persons.
Chairman Davis passed out a brochure entitled
"Learning tO Be Human for others and ourselves"
that was enclosed with the letter and noted that
Ms. LaBar might be a good resou rse person for
various groups looking for speakers.
Chairman Davis presented the rough dratt copy
of the accessibility booklet for the Commission's
review. He noted that Coro;missioner Blomberg had
contacted General Mills and had obtained from them
their guarantee that they would print the booklet
at no cast; to the City.
The Commission next reviewed a copy of an intro-
ductory statement, for the accessibility booklet
prepared by Commissioner Campion. it was the
consensus of the Commission that the introductory
statement was well done and should be incorporated
in the booklet.
Chairman Davis next reviewed an addendum prepared
by Commissioner Tolve, containing a list of
agencies or resources serving the handicapped and
the elderly. It was the consensus of the Commis-
sion to include this addendum in the booklet.
Following the review of the addendum, Commissioner
Campion distributed a number of pictures he had
taken for the booklet. After reviewing the
pictures, the Commission decided that Commissioner
Campion should decide which pictures should be
used in the booklet.
Chairman Davis noted that the booklet does not
have a title. He suggested that Commissioners
suggest titles prior to the next meeting.
Commissioner Sugimura, noted that Commissioner
Campion had spent his own money for film and
developing costs for the pictures to be used
for the booklet, She stated that she felt he
should be reimbursed.
Following a discussion on this subject, there
was a motion by Commissioner Sugimura and seconded
by Commissioner Weyrauch to request that the City
reimburse Commissioner Campion for the costs of
p.ct.ures taken for the accessibility booklet.
