HomeMy WebLinkAbout1975 02-19 HRRMMinutes of the Proceedings of the Human Rights Commission of the City of Brooklyn Center in the County of Hennepin and the State of Minnesota REGULAR SESSION FEBRUARY 19, 1975 CITY HALL Call to Order The Brooklyn Center Human Rights Commission met in regular session and was called to order by Chairman Davis at 7°35 p,mo Roll Call Chairman Davis, Commissioners Blomberg, Sugimura and Campion. Also present were Administrative Assistants Ron Warren and Fames Laci.na Approval of Minutes Motion by Commissioner Sugimura and seconded by 1-29-75 Commissioner - to apprnve the minutes of the January 29, 1975 meeting. The motion passed unanimously Review of Chairman Davis introduced the first item of Accessibility Survey business or. the agenda, a review of the accessi- bility survey, He indicated that he had talked with the secretary of the Chamber of Commerce and is scheduled to appear at their February 20, 1975 meeting to give a review and report on the acces- sibility survey. He also noted that there would be an article regarding the survey m the Chamber newsletter. o He indicated that he would discuss the survey in terms of input (-,)n the part of the Chamber of Commerce, He noted that he would stress the positive results of the survey and stated that he felt the Chamber would be a very worthwhile organ'za,tion in help:ing conduct the survey and compiling the booklet 'there was a brief discussion as to the distribu- tion. of the access :i.bility bookleto it was noted that this booklet would be applicable to handi- capped and elderly and should be distributed on that basis, Commissioner Su.gi.mura suggested churches, service organizations, businesses and the Chamber of Commerce along with the regular City depositories as places that should have access to the booklet. Chairman Davis then stated that the Commission should make an attempt to complete the survey and publish the booklet by this summer. The secretary briefly reviewed the Yale drscope program for 1975° He noted that Kaleidoscope would be held on April 6 from 11000 aam,, to 6000 p.m. and that he felt the Commission should make an effort to participate in the same manner that it did for the first Kaleidoscope in 19740 He suggested the "I'm OK" Program, an inform,,atic)n sheet on the Human Rights Commission"s activities and information on the accessibility survey as items for Kaleidoscope, Commissioner Sugimura noted that she would crn- tact the State Human Rights Commission to see if they had applicable information regarding posters or other handouts. Motion by Commissioner Sugimura and secc.,nded by Commissioner Campion to participate in Kaleidoscope '75. Motion passed unanimously. The regular meeting for the month of March w-.is scheduled for March 19, 1975 at 7:30 p,m, the Council Chambers. Motion by Commissioner Sugimura and secu_rsded by Commissioner Blomberg to adjourn the meeting, The motion passed unanimously.
