in regular session and was called to order by
Chairman Davis at 7:40 p.m.
Roll Call Chairman Davis, Commissioners Tolve, Blomberg,
Campion, Martinsen, Weyrauch and Sugimura. Also
present were Councilman Robert Jensen and Admini-
strative Assistants Ron Warren and Jim Lacina.
Approval of Minutes Motion by Commissioner Weyrauch and seconded by
11-27-74 Commissioner Tolve to approve the minutes of the
November 27, 1974 meeting. The motion passed
unanimously.
Welcome of New Chairman Davis welcomed Commissioners Blomberg
Commissioners and Campion to the Commission. He reviewed
their background and noted that their presence
on the Commission left only two positions open.
Accessibility Survey Chairman Davis introduced the next item of busi-
ness on the agenda, a review of the accessibility
survey. He briefly reviewed this program for the
benefit of the new Commissioners. He then com-
mented that the survey itself had been established
but that the problem now was in soliciting help
to complete the survey. He noted that volunteer
groups such as the Jaycees, high school students,
Lions and possibly scout groups could be requested
to help the Commission in completing the survey.
Commissioner Tolve commented briefly on the state
law regarding standards of construction for handi-
capped. She noted the specific areas where handi-
capped persons have problems and commented that a
program such as this could benefit the handicapped
people of the community.
Chairman Davis stated that the League of Women
Voters might be able to help out in the comple-
tion of the survey. He also noted that the
Chamber of Commerce might be helpful. There
was a brief discussion relative to contacting
the Chamber of Commerce and soliciting their
help and input on the survey.
Commissioner SugiMura noted that it would be
good to contact the Chamber and request them to
participate in the survey. She commented that
it could possibly be done by attending their
meeting with a follow up mailing requesting their
input and participation in completing the survey.
It was the consensus of the Commission to have
Chairman Davis contact the Chamber of Commerce
and attend their next regularly scheduled meeting
to present the accessibility survey to them and
request their participation.
A tentative timetable was established for comple-
tion of the survey. Commissioner Tolve suggested
that the survey should be completed in early summer,
possibly June.
Chairman Davis introduced the next item of business Community
on the agenda, the community education program. Com® Education
missioner Tolve reviewed the purpose and function of Program
the community education program. She then noted that
due to a time conflict she would not be able to serve
as the Commission°s representative to the Community
Education Council.
Chairman Davis inquired as to whether anyone would
be interested in serving as liaison to the Community
Education Council. He noted that they should let
him know if they were interested in participating in
this program.
Chairman Davis then noted that the Northwest Human Human Services
Services Council had prepared a Drctory of Human Directory
Services in a small pamphlet form. He commented
that he thought this was a very worthwhile pamphlet
and served the purpose that the Commission had talked
about previously.
He also noted that he had received a letter from
Representative Carlson noting that he would be
serving on the Health and Welfare Committee and
the Health Care Subcommittee in the legislature
and that if the Commission were interested in any
proposals or had any requests of him they should
feel free to contact him.
