HomeMy WebLinkAbout1984 06-13 HRRMMINUTES OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF BROOKLYN CENTER IN THE COUNTY OF HENNEPIN AND THE STATE OF MINNESOTA REGULAR SESSION JUNE 13, 1984 CITY HALL -CALL TO ORDER The Brooklyn Center Human Rights Commission met in regular session and was called to order by Vice--Chairman Mayleben at 7:45 p.m. ROLL CALL % Vice-Chairman Mayleben, Commissioners Lemke, Rabine, Keeselhorst and Misfeldt. Also present was Administrative Assistant Tom Bublitz. Vice-Chair Mayleben noted that Commissioners Stoderl, Griffith, Trautwein and Chairperson Kuhar would be absent from this evenings meeting. DISCUSSION AND BRAINSTORMING SESSION ON CHILD ABUSE The commission members spent a considerable amount of time discussing infor- mation presented by speakers at previous Commission meetings regarding the issue of child abuse. Councilmember Lhotka arrived at 8:15 p.m. Commissioner Rabine discussed educating children in the 7 - 12 age group since that was the age group that Police Officer Spehn indicated was most in need of this type of information. She also suggested educating parents would be essential. Commissioner Misfeldt expressed a concern that the abuse of adults should also be addressed. The Commission continued to discuss the child abuse issue and discussed the existing child advocate programs in the metropolitan area. The Commission suggested inviting a child advocate from the Home Free Shelter to the next Commission meeting. ADJOURNMENT There was a motion by Commissioner Rabine and seconded by Commissioner Kieselhorst to adjourn the meeting. The motion passed.
