'The Village Council of the Village of Brook-
lyn _Center do ordain as follows - e _

Section -1 —The Village Council- shall, .gLt

Qualifications of Inspectors -
The Inspector of buildings shall be a prat,
tical builder, or one who has been engaged_
in active duties of his occupation.
Precautions in Behalf of Public Safety
Section 2: It "shall be the duty of the
Inspector -of Buildings; when any citizen rep:
resents;. or .whenever it may in any other'
manner - come to his knowledge, that ashes
or combustible materials are - kept in • any
Place in the village in an insecure manner ";
or that the doors, stairways, corridors, exitR4
or fire - escapes in any factory or work shop
or Place of employment, amusement, instruc - "
tion or habitation are insufficient for the es-
cape of employes or other Persons in such
buildings -in case of fire, panic, or accident
Or . 'that the, funnels,
heat flues, -fire -boxes or
ing apparatus in any buildings within
the village are insecure or dangerous,' or
that , any , ,building or Part thereof is,
insecure .or- dangerous, or in any wise in
contravention o£ :the Provisions of this or-
dinance, to make, or cause to be made, and
examination of such 'glace or building, and
if such representation is found to be tree,

writing to owner, occupant, lesee or per -

or repairs. as Public safety, in the opirdpn

be unlawful =.to continue the use of occu- _
pancy y-of any such place cr building, if such
use or occupancy shall be probibited by the
Inspector of Buildings, until all changes, al-
terations or repairs so ordered by the In-
spector of Buildings shall have been com-
Pleted a d by him approved.
No p rmit shall be required for the con-
, struction, alteration or repair of buildings
owned by the United States or the State of
Minnesota. Permits shall not be required
for repairs or alterations to any building,
the'eost of which will not exceed fifty dol-
lars ($50.00), but such repairs or alters-
tions, for which permits are not required
shall not be considered to include the chang-
ing of any of the structural Parts of ,any
building or the alteration, removal or clos-
ing of any .stairway or exit, or altering of
any chimney or heating Plant.
REVOCATION OF PERMITS
Section O.-- Should the Inspector of Build-
ings, become, convinced that the work for
which any permit has been granted by him
under the Provisions of this ordinance, is not
proceeding according to the statements,

Danger Cards
Section 3.— Whenever the Inspector of
Buildings has knowledge of any unsafe
buildings, structure or part thereof, the con-
' ditions being such as to endanger the public,
or the occupants of such building or struc- -
.ture or of adjoining buildings or structures,
i it shall be his duty to affix a NOTICE of
the dangerous character of such building or
structure in a conspicuous place on the ex-
terior thereof,'and any person removing such
Notice so affixed shall be subject upon con-
viction thereof, to a fine of not less than
t'en dollars ($10.00) nor more than twenty-
five dollars ($25.00), or, upon failure to pay
such fine; to imprisonment not exceeding
thirty (30) days.

Section 4. —The Inspector of Buildings is
hereby given authority to stop the construe -
tion, alteration - or repair of any building,
within the _Tillage of Brooklyn Center, when-
ever in his 'judgement the same is being
done in -.a reckless, careless, unsafe or im-
proper manner, or in violation of any ordin+ _
ante of the Village. of Brooklyn Center,- and
to order, in `writing or by parole, any and
all persons in any .way or manner, what_ so-

slap and desist therefrom. "When. any such
work shall have been so ptopped by the
Inspector of Buildings, it shall not be re-
sumed until after said Inspector 'shall have
been satisfied that all precautions= will be
taken for the protection of life and prop-
erty' and that such work will be prosecuted
in a safe manner and ii? conformity with the
ordinance of the Village. -_
Electrical Work; General Supervision of
Section 5. —The Inspector of Buildings
shall have charge of, and exercise general
supervision over, all electrical work in'the
Vilage of Brooklyn Center placed by ordin-
ance) within the jurisdiction of his depart-
ment.
Salaries
f Section 6. —The Village Council shall, in
all cases fix the salary of the Inspector of
Buildings, asistants, clerks -and employes.
Part 5
i EXCAVATIONS AND FOUNDATIONS
Excavations
shall ben 11. —All excavations for buildings
Properly guarded and protected by
the person, persons or corporations - causing
the same to be made, so as to prevent the
same from .becoming dangerous to life' or
limb, and shall be sheath -piled where it may
be necessary to prevent the adjoining soil
from caving in by reason of its own weight,
or by reason of any load that may rest
upon it.
Any persons excavating for or commenc-
Ing any foundation for any building shall
fully protect any adjoining land or building,
1 or ,the walls thereof, so that it shall remain
'as stable as before excavation was com-
menced.
Section 12. —That no person or persons;
firm or corporation shall erect or construct any building or buildings which shall be any
closer than twenty feet from the street, road
or highway in the Village of Brooklyn Cen-
ter.
Section 13. —The village council of the
Village of Brooklyn Center do ordain as
follows: No person shall hereafter establish
or maintain any tannery, dye house, boiler
shop, rendering' house, storehouse for oil or
Powder, foundry, glue facto, soap house, -
storehouses for hides pole yards, creosoting
Plants, without first securing and. obtaining
a permit to establish said business from the
village council.
Section 14. —Any person violating the pro-
visions of this ordinance, on conviction
thereof shall be punished by a fine of not
more than one hundred dollars ($100.00) for
every offense; or in dgfault of the payment
of said fine, may be imprisoned for each
fine, not exceeding ninety days.
Section 15. —This ordinance shall take ef-
feet and be in force from and after its pub-
lication.
