HomeMy WebLinkAbout1971 05-11 HRRMCity of Brooklyn Center Human Rights Commission Minutes May 11, 1971 The meeting of the Brooklyn Center Human Rights commission convened at 8:05 p.m.. Roll Call: Chairman Monaghan, Commissioners Hastings, Meyer, Winkelman, Martinsen, Zerban, Gustafson, Sandoval, Sazama. Commissioner Hastings moved and Commissioner Martinsen seconded that the minutes of the March 9 and April 14 meetings be approved. Motion carried unanimously. Chairman Monaghan announced that he is moving to Maryland and he was thus submitting his resignation. He noted that Vice Chair- man Winkelman would assume the Chairman's duties until a new chairman was appointed. Commissioner Sazama moved and Commissioner Zerban seconded that Chairman Monaghan be commended for his efforts on the Commission. Motion passed unanimously. Commissioner Zerban told of a letter he had received from the District 281 Human Relations Advisory Committee which asked that the Commission nominate a representative. He noted that the nominee must be a resident of the Robbinsdale School District. Suspension of regular meetings during the summer months was • discussed. Commissioner Gustafson moved and Commissioner Sazama seconded that the Commission suspend its regular meetings for July and August. Motion passed unanimously. Commissioner Sazama inquired about the possibility of the Commission sponsoring a Human Rights Week. Chairman Monaghan suggested that the Commission consider working with area schools in sponsoring Human Relations programs this fall. Commissioner Sandoval moved and Commissioner Zerban seconded that the Commission adjourn. Motion passed unanimously. The Human Rights Commission adjourned at 9:05 P.M..
