HomeMy WebLinkAbout1971 04-14 HRRMMinutes of the Proceedings of the Human Rights Commission of the City of Brooklyn Center In the County of Hennepin and State of Minnesota April 14, 1971 The Human Rights Commission was called to order by Commissioner Al Weyrauch as acting Chairman at 8:10 P. M. Roll Call; Commissioners vveyrauch, Meyer, Rasmussen, Hastings and Martinsen. Staff members pre$ent: Blair Tremere and Tom Loucks. Acting Chairman Weyrauch noted the small attendance and lack of a quorum, Thus, the minutes of the March 9, 1971 meeting were not read and approved. Acting Chairman Weyrauch expressed the gratitude of the Commission to Mr, Loucks who will no longer be working wfth the Commission, He welcomed Blair Tremere who is assuming Mr, Louck's duties with the Commission, Acting Chairman Weyrauch said he knew of only three members who had excused their absence from the meeting including Chairman Monagan and Vice-Chairman Win:;leman. There was discussion about the small attendance and the possibility of having a smaller Commission, Commissioner Rasmussen informed the Commission of tenants rights legislation now pending before the State Legislature, This includes Senate Files (S,F,) 502, 503, and 579, These have been reported out of sub-committee to the judiciary Committee of which Senator Nyquist is a member, Acting Chairman vVeyrauch read a list of retail and wholesale produce firms in the metropolitan. area which have gone on record in support of the lettuce corkers boycott, Commissioner Hastings noted the Federal ruling that communities must have a housing administration authority to be eligible for low income housing; that there had been some discussion of the creation of a Metropolitan Housing Authority. Acting Chairman Vleyrauch reported on a meeting in St. Paul concerning new human rights legislation to investigate complaints and/or punitive action, Commissioner Martinsen inquired about the availability of funds to help meet the expenses of speakers. Blair Tremere was asked to check on this by the next meeting, Commissioner Martinsen moved for adjournment and was seconded by Commissioner Hastings, Motion carried unanimously, The Human Rights Commission adjourned at 8:40 P.M.
