HomeMy WebLinkAbout1968 10-09 HRRMMinutes of the Proceedings of the Human Rights Commission of the City of Brooklyn Center In The County of Hennepin and State of Minnesota October 9, 1968 The Human Rights Commission met in regular session and was called to order by Chairman Leon Binger at 8:00 P. M. s Roll Call: Leon Binger, Jesse Sandoval, Marvin Stavig, Majel Berg, Floyd Anderson, Arthur Gustafson, Eugene Sullivan, Charles Nichols and Neil Smeaton. Also present were: Jerry Dulgar and John Waisanen, Motion by Jesse Sandoval and seconded by Neil Smeaton to approve the minutes of the September 24, 1968 meeting as corrected. Commissioner Eugene Sullivan then reported on the work of the committee drafting the letter to the realtors and apartment owners in the north suburban area. Commissioner Floyd Anderson indicated that he would like to see th,,,~~lettercchh'fore they are sent out and that he thought it would be a good idea of all th_'= mission members saw the letters before they were sent out. The Commission then discussed the publication of statements and comments by the Commission. The Commission also discussed the seminar sponsored by the North Suburban Human Rights Council that will be held for realtors at Boutell's. Motion by Flovd Anderson and seconded by Euaene Sullivan that all public • statements,(writWen)or otherwise, made by members of the Brooklyn Center Human Rights Commiss that declare nr imply the support of the Brooklyn Center Human Riqhts Commission be distributed, discussed and approved by a majority of the Commission members at a regular meeting prior to publication. The vote was unanimous in favor of this motion. Commissioner Anderson then reported on his work with the committee working: with the Osseo School District. He reported that they had their first meeting and he had met with all the other committee members and they were setting up a regula!° meeting schedule and program for the committee. The next meeting of that com- mittee will be on Monday, October 14, at 8:00 P.M. ar Commission Marvin Stavig and the Secretary of the Commission, Jerry Dulgar, then reported on the class on Afro-American History being held at the library under the sponsorship of the Brooklyn Center Civil Rights Action Committee. Majel Berg and John Waisanen then reported on the "Ile Share the Dream" button sales program in Brooklyn Center. They reported that the sales program had been set up and that volunteers were being recruited to sell the buttons in the booths at Brookdale and Shoppers City. The Commission then discussed the dispersement of the money from the sale of the buttons, Chairman Binger announced the appointment of Jesse Sandoval to the commit- tee to work with Brooklyn Center School District. Chairman Binger then announced that the meeting was open for the considera- tion of new business. -1- Chairman Binger announced that he had received the resignation of Mike Friedman from the Commission and that it was his information that a new Commis- sioner would be appointed in the near future. Motion by Charles Nichols and seconded by Floyd Anderson to adjourn the meeting. The Human Rights Commission meeting adjourned at 9:48 P. M.
