HomeMy WebLinkAbout2005 01-10 CCM Work Session MINUTES OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BROOKLYN CENTER IN THE COUNTY OF HENNEPIN AND THE STATE OF MINNESOTA WORK SESSION JANUARY 10, 2005 CITY HALL — COUNCIL CHAMBERS CALL TO ORDER The Brooklyn Center City Council met in Work Session and was called to order by Mayor Myrna Kragness at 8:06 p.m. ROLL CALL Mayor Myrna Kragness, Councilmembers Kathleen Carmody, Kay Lasman, Diane Niesen, and Mary O'Connor. Also present: City Manager Michael McCauley and Deputy City Clerk Maria Rosenbaum. NEW COUNCIL MEMBER ORIENTATION Council discussed the following to help orient newly elected Councilmember O'Connor: City Council goal setting process, group process, protocols during meetings, and commissions and liaisons. Councilmember Lasman encouraged Councilmember O'Connor to attend the League of Minnesota Cities Newly Elected Officials Conference. Mayor Kragness encouraged Councilmember O'Connor to attend as many social functions as possible. The Council emphasized that the City Council does not deal with City employees directly. All City Council inquiries and requests are directed to the City Manager. The City Council discussed the differences between statutory and home rule charter cities, open meeting law, data practices, conflict of interest, and different City funds (EDA, HRA, Enterprise). MISCELLANEOUS There were no miscellaneous items. ADJOURNMENT A motion by Councilmember Lasman, seconded by Councilmember Carmody to adjourn the Work Session at 9:11 p.m. Motion passed unanimously.
