Police Department Begins Targeted Traffic Enforcement
Sgt. Greg Weeks of the police department is coordinating the City's targeted traffic enforcement efforts. Targeted areas are those
roadways with high accident rates, a high number of violations, or a number of citizen complaints. The program is designed to heighten
awareness of traffic laws, especially speed limits, and to have drivers voluntarily comply with State Statutes and City Ordinances.
Brooklyn Center police officers will be paying special. attention to the following areas (both areas are targeted for speed enforcement
and pedestrian crosswalk violations):
• Shingle Creek Parkway from Freeway Boulevard to 69th Avenue and 69th Avenue from Shingle Creek Parkway to
Brooklyn Boulevard.
• Humboldt Avenue from the Hwy. 100 exit to 69th Avenue.
Brooklyn Center police are also targeting turn restriction violators at Humboldt Avenue North at 73rd Avenue and the high occupancy
vehicle lane from Brooklyn Boulevard to eastbound I -694.
Drivers are reminded to be aware of the increase in motorcycle, bicycle, and pedestrian traffic that occurs every spring. Motorcyclists
are entitled to use the complete width of the traffic lane in which they are traveling. Bicyclists are subject to the same laws as motor
vehicles and must travel on the right side of the roadway. Drivers are reminded to yield to pedestrians in crosswalks. Your
coo eration makes Brooklyn Center a safer community.
