HomeMy WebLinkAbout2009 05-13 EACMEAC MEETING EARLE BROWN CENTER MAY 13, 2009 The meeting was called to order by Chair, Vickie Schleuning Present: Vickie Schleuning, Amy Phillip, George Jennrich, Bruce Johnson, Rick Nelson, Mark Reinking, Paul Swett, Virginia Carter and introducing new member, Linda DeBace from Earle Brown Center. Absent: Jill Berger, Kristi Commers, Nancy Cary and Dana Mickelson. The minutes were approved. Open/Ongoing Issues: EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT: Continues to be a hit with employees. Reminder, all information for the employee spotlight is on the /s/ drive including questions to ask. EMPLOYEE SURVEY: Each committee member received a copy of the results of the employee survey. We discussed the results of the survey at some length. (see Survey for percentages-too many to list). Employees did show an interest in outside activities after hours such as: Bowling (the big one!), Twins or Saints game, family picnic, golf or mini-golf, bike rides, Riverboat dinner & ride. Most would prefer family friendly activities other than during the work day so families could get to know each other on a different level. Another idea was a service project replacing smoke alarms for seniors, park clean-up, etc. then a picnic, theater night. ASSIGNMENTS: Amy-Bowling (Nov.), Paul-Twins or Saints game (family activity)-(August) UPCOMING ACTIVITIES: June 17 – City Picnic September 14 – Golf tournament EMPLOYEE NEWSLETTER: Survey says out of 120 responses, 111 read it and only 19 don’t. Other comments included: “Good updates and employee information, keeps us updated on what’s going on, stay informed of anything new in departments, informative information, like the anniversary section, and a lot of….it’s nice to learn about others in the City.” There were a few negative comments also. Discussion on response to question about the newsletter being distributed by email. 101 said yes, they’d read it, 26 said no. More people said they prefer to receive a paper copy with their check. For the present, paper copies will continue to be distributed. NEW BUSINESS: Paul brought up the possibility of having a pool of sick time for employees experiencing catastrophic illnesses. This has been tried unsuccessfully in the past. Is this appropriate? There would need to be guidelines…i.e. how much you can get/give. Vicki to have prelim. Info. For next meeting. NEED A NEW VICE CHAIR FOR EAC: No volunteers. CURRENT LEVEL OF ACTIVITY: Are we doing enough? Should we sponsor more CPR training, safety training. (e-mail Vicki with ideas). We did talk briefly about a lack of safety equipment in some departments of the city. Vicki would like a list emailed to her of what is needed. NEXT MEETING: JUNE 10TH @ 9:00 A.M., EARLE BROWN CENTER
