Employee Action Committee
Meeting Minutes
February 13, 2008
I. Call to order
Vickie Schleuning called the EAC meeting to order at 9:00 am on February 13, 2008 in the EBHC
meeting room.
II. Roll call
The following persons were present: Bruce (Doc) Miller, John Rued, Amy Phillips, Virginia Carter,
Mark Reinking, Rick Nelson, Bruce Johnson and Danna Mickelson.
Persons not present: Jill Berger, Kristi Commers, George Jennrich
III. Approval of minutes from last meeting
Minutes from the January 9, 2008 meeting were not reviewed at this time.
IV. Agenda Items
Open Issues
1)
a. City Department events and communication methods would be worked on this meeting
so it can be finalized.
b. EAC flyer for Employee Newsletter needs to be completed.
c. EAC is considering survey to find out what employees want. One was conducted a few
years ago.
New business
1) Virginia Carter agreed to be the secretary to help distribute the workload. Charlene has
agreed to continue to draft notes. Joyce will be sending out meeting reminders and
minutes. The calendar appointments need to be scheduled for 2008.
2) EAC influences
a. A lot of work expectations– too few people, too much work.
b. Landscape and garden contest person isn’t available. This program may not be
continued. Joyce used to organize this, but retired.
3) We need to set up reasonable workload expectations for EAC
a. What we can do, what we can’t do – expectations may have to change due to time
commitment.
4) Need better information sharing on what departments and city are doing, i.e. perf study
a. Community expo – city open house, April 12, 2008. Workers may be needed.
b. Employee Newsletter is a great communication tool and could be enhanced.
Employees noticed it was missing when the deputy city clerk position was in
recruitment.
c. Could start brown bag or similar meetings, optional
i. Information on development and redevelopment needed, foreclosures, etc.

5) Curt is planning to have periodic “all city staff” meetings.
6) Some current department communication and training meetings
a. Public Works – has quarterly meetings
i. Labor/Management Committee safety meetings
ii. Monthly safety meetings and training – OSHA
iii. Every a.m. supervisor meet with park, streets, water, sewer
iv. Christmas and birthday parties, front staff make cakes (EAC members want to
know these days so we can stop by. )
b. Police – records weekly any concerns go to sergeants meeting – must for officers
c. EBC – Wait and management staff
i. Training once a year
ii. Open 6 a.m. until ??
iii. Department supervisors
iv. Way you get information – talk to boss
v. Heritage Center Spotlight (once a month)
vi. EBHC Christmas dinner
d. CARS – no all department meetings
i. Building maintenance, custodians, no safety meetings – no meetings
ii. No meetings at Community Center
e. Community Center – birthdays – people bring treats
7) General Communications
a. CEAP drive in March – contact Danna
