HomeMy WebLinkAbout2008 08-12 EACM Employee Action Committee DRAFT Meeting Minutes AUGUST 14, 2008 The August EAC meeting was held at Earle Brown Center. Present: Bruce Miller, Jill Berger, Rick Nelson, Danna Mickelson, Amy Phillip, Jon Rued, Mark Reinking, Vickie Schleuning. nd MINUTES: Approved by Danna, 2 by Rick BLOOD DRIVE: Big success, 2 gallons of blood, 18 units. Question about opening to the community. Problem is that it takes extra time on the part of the city employee to coordinate a larger drive. DIVERSITY MEETING: Consensus was that it was interesting and overall worthwhile. EVENTS CALENDAR: Very positive feedback. People are possibly more likely to attend activities if they know the dates far enough in advance. EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT: Turned out very well, good content, good to get to know employees on a little more personal basis. Talked about how to decide what employees to highlight. Decided to look into having two employees each issue, one a new employee and one an employee who had been with the city for a long time and that they represent every division of the city. Jill will do a query and get back to us. It was decided that Amy and Rick would do September and possibly do Dwayne Holmstrom from the P.D. and George Jennrich from Centerbrook Golf Course. John and Jill will do October. November will be decided and Virginia will do December and possibly highlight Maria Rosenbaum and her situation as Danna would like to propose another blood drive the first part of the year to help Maria’s family out. It was felt there would be a very good turnout as long as people knew far enough ahead so they didn’t donate before that. Vickie will e-mail Amy and Rick with the deadline for the September newsletter. It was discussed that possibly the questions could be set up as a template (also need a picture). Danna will work on that with Scott’s help. EMERGENCY SAFETY COMMITTEE: City-wide. 1 person needed from each department. Meetings will be 1 hour long 4 times a year (quarterly). Safe Assure will work with the committee to define and communicate the City’s safety program. It will include emergency weather drill planning, an evacuation plan and a response plan. Dan Jordet is heading up this committee. Each EAC member is asked to get a representative from their department. EMPLOYEE RECOGNITION: 1 It was decided that this should not be combined with the holiday lunch, one reason being everyone comes and goes at different times to the holiday lunch. It seemed more appropriate to combine employee recognition with the all day City meeting. The reason it was considered to do it with the holiday luncheon is that the City does have funds available for EAC to use but in order to use City funds we have to incorporate either training or recognition. Therefore, if the employee recognition is not paired with Holiday lunch, we cannot use those funds to offset the ticket price of the lunch. HOLIDAY LUNCH: Committee includes Rick, Jill and Amy and Jill will send an e-mail to all City employees asking for volunteers to serve on the committee. It was discussed that planning has to start very soon in order to get a caterer, if that’s what is decided. It was also discussed to do a potluck after work. On the employee survey actually a potluck was fairly high on what people would be interested in. COMMUNICATION/LEARNING STYLE SELF-ASSESSMENT: At the end of the meeting Vickie gave us each a multiple choice assessment to fill out to show us how we communicate. It was very interesting to see who was visual, verbal, or kinesthetic (jump right in and do it!). The meeting was adjourned approximately 10:20 a.m. Minutes submitted by: Virginia 2
