Also present was City Manager Curt Boganey. The City Manager provided a brief overview of the history of the EAC and the roles the EAC traditionally played. It was noted that city departments, such as Human Resources, have absorbed many of the original roles of the EAC. The City Manager surveyed surrounding cities as to whether a committee such as the EAC existed at each city and what role the committee performed. The City Manager identified four areas of need that the EAC could play a role:  Employee Recognition Programs – The City Manager would like to expand/improve on employee recognition programs. Recent state legislation allows local governments to fund these programs within limitations.  Community Service Activities – These activities have value as a vehicle for employees to give back to the community. These activities also build a sense of community within the city.  Liaison between individual departments and City Manager (i.e. provide feedback from staff to City Manager).  Social Activities – These activities would require fundraising and are considered nice but not necessary. The EAC would serve the role as a coordinating group to identify activities, set a calendar and solicit volunteers for planning and implementation. The EAC would begin meeting quarterly. The next meeting will be on July 18 and the City Manager will discuss a draft of the EAC policy statement with the members. The committee will also discuss whether to rename the committee.
