Employee Action Committee
Meeting Minutes
10-10-07
I. Call to order
Vickie Schleuning called to order the regular meeting of the EAC at 9:00 am on October 10, 2007
in the Council Commission Conference Room.
II. Roll call
The following persons were present: Bruce Miller, George Jennrich, Jill Berger, John Rued, Tom
Agnes, Virginia Carter, Mark Reinking, Rick Nelson, and Kristi Commers.
Persons not present: Bruce Johnson
III. Approval of minutes from last meeting
Minutes from the September 18, 2007 meeting were unanimously approved.
IV. Agenda Items
Open Issues
1)
a. Finalized purpose and scope document.
b. Went through and updated the membership roster. The committee asked members to
volunteer an additional year so current committee members would leave on a
staggered basis. Jill, Bruce “Doc”, and George volunteered to stay on until the end of
2008.
c. Jill was assigned to take minutes today.
V. New business
1) Went around to members asking them to give us updates concerning their departments.
a. Administration – Jill reported that the last of the full-time employees were about to start
using ESS and that things were going fairly well. She also told us that her move from
Finance to HR is now complete.
b. EBHC – Doc brought up the proposed Embassy Suites motel going up by the Heritage
Center.
c. Community Development – John talked to us about what is going on with
neighborhoods in and around Brooklyn Center. Included was issues with rentals and
how cities are trying to rewrite ordinances to have more control over ones that
are problematic. He also told us that there are brochures available on foreclosures in
response to how many houses are in foreclosure.
d. Fire Department – Kristi told us that we have a new Fire Chief, Lee Gatlin, Jr. and that
all firefighters have e-mail now.

e. Police Department – Virginia shared with us that 2 of our CSO’s are our newest Police
Officers. Brett Vesey and Jeremy Whittenburg.
f. Golf – George said there wasn’t much new with the Golf Course with the season
Winding down and getting ready for winter.
g. Public Works – Mark stated that they too were starting to get ready for winter.
h. Liquor Store – Tom shared the news that Coors and Miller joined companies to
try and compete against Budweiser. He also brought up that the wine tasting event
through the Wine Club was coming up and that he expected about 100 people to
attend.
i. Maintenance – Rick told us he was getting ready for winter as well.
2) Member Assignments
a. Bruce (Doc) Miller volunteered to be Vice-Chair.
3) Financial Status
a. We have $376.70 in the EAC fund.
4) Calendar of Events
a. The Holiday Luncheon is going to be held December 12, 2007. Jill is looking for
volunteers to help her.
b. Toys for Tots
c. Blood Drive
d. CEAP Food Drive
e. City Open House
f. Fire Department Open House
g. Employee Recognition
5) Communication Strategies – How to get employees more connected to the City and other
employees.
a. BC Buzz was talked about. It is delivered to City Hall, but apparently to no other
buildings. A lot of the members stated they found it informative and inquired
how they could get copies in their departments.
b. Utilize the employee newsletter.
c. The City’s website.
d. Castnet
e. Department bulletin boards.
VI. Adjournment
Vickie adjourned the meeting at 10:20 a.m.
