HomeMy WebLinkAbout2001 08-15 EACM EMPLOYEE ACTION COMMITTEE MINUTES FROM AUGUST 15, 2001 Roll Call: Susan Fleck, George Jenrich, Sharon Kutzke, Ed Lovelace, Maria Rosenbaum, Bonnie St. Dryden, Dave Valker, and Jenny Whiting Holiday Party: The holiday party is scheduled for Tuesday, December 18. The community center will not be available at that time due to reconstruction. Alternate sites were suggested, including the East Fire Station, the Earle Brown Heritage Center, and Centerbrook. Maria, Bonnie, and Sharon will look into the possibilities for each location. If the party is held at the EBHC, it would be catered. If we have a potluck at the fire station or Centerbrook, someone will have to be there early in the morning so employees can drop off their dishes before work. Susan Fleck said the community center will have a limited number of Happenings Books available for sale. The books can be sold to employees for $15, or she offered to sell them for $20 or $25 and donate the profit to the EAC for prizes. No decision was made. Brown Bag: The National Night Out Brown Bag Seminar was held on July 25. Fifteen people attended the seminar. Turnout has been very low for the last few seminars, so the committee decided to do a survey to get feedback and ideas for topics from employees. The survey will also ask about interest in EAC sponsored social events such as a Twins game, a Saints game, a trip to a casino, etc. Bonnie will work on the survey and bring the draft to the September meeting. Other Business: Discussion of the CEAP food drive and Toys for Tots was tabled until a later date when Gary Coleman is present. Department Updates: Community Development: Ed reported that the Brookdale construction is underway and is behind schedule, and construction continues on Brooklyn Boulevard. They will begin reviewing the plans for the city hall/community center reconstruction. CARS: Susan reported that the pool has been very busy due to the heat, and the summer camps have had good attendance. The community center reconstruction is scheduled to begin around December 1, and the center will be closed for about four months. They are making plans for temporary offices and finding alternate sites for classes during the reconstruction. Maintenance: Dave reported that they nearly had to close the pool on one of the hottest days due to mechanical problems with the filters. The fuel tanks in front of city hall will be removed and replaced with one new tank in September. The south parking lot will be renovated and reconfigured this fall. Centerbrook: George reported that construction of the new maintenance building at the golf course is due to begin at any time and is scheduled for completion by the end of September. EBHC: Bonnie reported that they had a power outage (the same one that affected parts of Minneapolis and the Metrodome) and had some unhappy customers. September will be a busy month at the EBHC. Administration: Maria provided information on the city hall/community center project. Finance: Sharon reported that interviews are scheduled for the utility technician position and training for the J.D. Edwards conversion is scheduled to begin in October. Garage/Public Works: Jenny reported that a couple of vehicles will be sold at the county auction and council approved the purchase of some new vehicles. The crews are busy with street projects. Next Meeting: 9 a.m. on Wednesday, September 19, 2001, Conference Room B
