One lever machine was placed right inside the entrance making voting accessible for handicapped persons. This facility easily accommodated the large turnout from this precinct. However, in 1988 when the City purchased optical scan equipment, this facility was no longer handicap accessible and other arrangements for a polling place had to be made. The new Centerbrook Clubhouse was chosen because it met all legal requirements for a polling location and was handicap accessible. After the heavy turnout for the November 1988 presidential election, we found it was just too small to handle the voters in this precinct. We have contacted the pastor of the Lutheran Church of the Triune God, 5827 Humboldt Avenue North, and the trustees have granted us permission to use their facilities for holding elections in Precinct I. This facility is one block outside of the precinct, but within the legal limits allowed by law and is also handicap accessible. RECOMMENDATION It is recommended the polling location for Precinct 1 be changed to Lutheran Church of the Triune God, 5827 Humboldt Avenue North. y Member introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption: RESOLUTION NO. RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING POLLING LOCATION CHANGE FOR PRECINCT 1 WHEREAS, Chapter 204B.16 of Minnesota Statutes provides that the City Council designate polling places; and WHEREAS, the present polling location for Precinct 1, located at Centerbrook Clubhouse, 5500 North Lilac Drive is not large enough to accommodate the heavy turnout of voters in that precinct; and WHEREAS, the Lutheran Church of the Triune God, 5827 Humboldt Avenue North, meets all legal requirements and can accommodate Precinct 1 as a polling location: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the polling location for Precinct 1 be changed to the Lutheran Church of the Triune God, 5827 Humboldt Avenue North. Date Mayor ATTEST: City Clerk The motion for the adoption of the foregoing resolution was duly seconded by member I and upon vote being taken thereon, the following voted in favor thereof: and the following voted against the same: whereupon said resolution was declared duly passed and adopted.
