Brooklyn Center Earth Fest
Posted April 13th, 2010 by heather_schmitz
DATE AND TIME: 04/24/2010 - 1:00pm
LOCATION NAME: Brooklyn Center High School
The mission for our event is this:
* To create an annual venue to promote sustainable, healthy, clean energy, waste
reducing practices.
* To empower citizens and children to take positive, meaningful action In their lives,
fostering an understanding that they are an Integral part of the world around them
* To build a sense of partnership and unity in our community,
* To provide a stepping stone for further community and school based activities and
events as we connect with others that have energy and passion for the environment
* To celebrate the Earth!
As you can see, our mission is far reaching. How do we plan to accomplish this? By
identifying six regions in Brooklyn Center, each centered around an elementary school,
and six major topics of exploration, wherein the schools, non - profits, service
organizations, businesses, and community members with the city, along with experts from
the surrounding region will work together to create exhibits and activities focused on their
topic.
The six basic topics of exploration for the Fest are Reduce (energy conservation, waste
reduction, toxicity reduction)), Reuse, Recycle, Clean Water, Clean Air and Growing Green
(gardening, urban forestry, food production).
The BC Fest is gathering momentum. We're excited about this opportunity to bring our
community together with some of the knowledgeable and talented folks inside and outside
our city, as we share a wealth of information on sustainable practices!
