HomeMy WebLinkAbout1970 11-24 CCM Special Session Minutes of the Proceedings of the City Council of the City of Brooklyn Center In the County of Hennepin and State of Minnesota November 24 1970 The City Council met in special session and was called to order by Mayor Philip Cohen at 7 :35 P.M. Roll Cali: Philip Cohen, Vernon Ausen, Howard Heck and Theodore Willard,. Also present were: Donald Poss and Eugene Hagel. Citizens Architectural Advisory Committee members present were: Gordon Erickson. This sixteenth special meeting of the Brooklyn Center City Council and the Citizens Archtectura.l Advisory Committee was conducted for the purpose of considering the color schedules and the furnishings schedules for the Community Center and City Hall. Cerny representatives Robert Pierce and Richard Gilyard were present and interior consultants Robert Klaus and David Michaels who were representing Westburg Klaus Associates. Mr. Gilyard described the color schedules and presented material and color samples proposed for the Community Center and City Hall. Numerous questions were asked and satisfactory responses provided. Upon completion of the color schedule presentation a motion was made by Councilman Willard and seconded by Councilman Heck to approve the color schedules for the Community Center and City Hall as proposed by Cerny Associates, Inc. Voting in favor were: Philip Cohen, Vernon Ausen, Howard Heck and Theodore Willard. Voting against were: none. Motion carried unanimously. David Michaels then presented the furnishings schedule for the Community Center and City Hall using picture illustrations and sample materials. (Mayor Cohen left the meeting at 8; 45 P. M. turning the gavel over to Mayor Pro -tern Howard Heck.) Various questions were asked and clarifications sought regarding the proposed furnishings schedule and appropriate responses were provided by the consultants. The City Manager reported that representatives of the Youth Steering Committee had reviewed the Community Center furnishings schedule and color schedule on November 16, 1970 and that they were generally enthusiastic about the proposals. Upon completion fo the furnishings schedule review, Councilman Ausen suggested that the City Council consider approving the general concept of the furnishings schedule and authorize the administrative staff sufficient flexibility to make needed modifications and substitutions within the framework of the approved concept and budgetary constraints. The City Manager commented that the estimated cost of the proposed furnishings schedule amounted to approximately $45,000. A motion was made by Councilman Ausen and seconded by Councilman Willard to accept the furnishings schedule concept proposed by westburg -Klaus Associates and to authorize the City Manager sufficient flexibility to make desirable modificiations and substitutions within the framework of the approved concept and with recognition of budgetary constraints; further, that the Community Center furnishings be presented for review by the Park and Recreation Commission. Voting in favor were: Vernon ,Ausen, Howard Heck and and Theodore Willard. Voting against were: none. Motion carried unanimously.
