of the Village of Brooklyn Center in the County of Hennepin and
State of Minnesota, including all accounts audited by said Council
October 14, 1953
The Village Council met in regular session and called to order by
Arthur Paulson, President, at 8:00 P.M.
The following members were present: Arthur Paulson, Merrill
Stodghill, Wayne Gageby, Glen'Sonnenberg and. Paul Weekly.
A group of residents living along State Highway 152 within the
Village of Brooklyn Center, requesting bus service on a two hour basis on this
right -of -way, appeared before the Village Council. William Bolster, spokesman
for the group, was informed to form a committee of\five members to work with
the Council. Mr. Fraser, Village Attorney, was requested to take this matter
up with Leonard Lindquist who has had previous experience with the operation
of buses within the Village.
Motion made by Merrill Stodghill and seconded by Paul Weekly that
the Village oil Colfax Avenue Tiorth from 61st to 62nd Avenue North and also
61st and 62nd Avenues from Colfax Avenue to Dupont Avenue North; also the
Village Clerk to inform the Veteran's Administration by letter that the Village
will assume the responsibility of maintaining and oiling the streets, the streets
to be 60 feet in width, with a 30 ft. driveway and a 15 foot boulevard on each
side of the street. All members voting in favor of this motion, motion carried.

Motion made by Merrill Stodghill and seconded by Paul Weekly to accept
the petition of Mr. Balfany to blacktop Girard Avenue North from 60th Avenue
North to Lilac Drive; all members voting in favor of this motion, motion carried.
Motion made by Merrill Stodghill and seconded by Paul Weekly to accept
the final plat of the Garrison Addition, subject to posting of bond or a certified
check. All members voting in favor of this motion, motion carried.
Motion made by Merrill Stodghill and seconded by Paul Weekly to accept
the high bid of $200.00 covering the old furnace and duct work to Russell
Gilbertson and he to remove same. This furnace was appraised by two reliable
furnace companies at $160.00. All members voting in favor of this motion, motion
carried.
Motion made by Merrill Stodghill and seconded by Glen Sonnenberg that
the old cash register formerly used in liquor store be sold for $10.00. Motion
carried.
Motion made by Merrill Stodghill and seconded by Glen Sonnenberg to
advise the Manager of the Municipal Liquor Store to carry out his obligations,
and dispense with the services of Richard Jennrich, clerk. All members voting
in favor of this motion, motion carried.
Motion made by Glen Sonnenberg and seconded by Merrill Stodghill that
Mr. Wichterman be brought in to Justice Court for violating the Building Code
in not securing a building permit. All members voting in favor of this motion,
motion carried.
Motion made by Paul Weekly and seconded by Merrill Stodghill to accept
the final Plat of J. R. Murphy Addition, subject to the surrender of a Bond or
Certified Check guaranteeing road work. All members voting in favor of this
motion, motion carried.
Paul Weekly introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption:
RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, the Village of Brooklyn Center has been ratified by letter
by the Land Commissioner of Hennepin County that certain properties
hereinafter more fully described have been forfeited to the State of
Minnesota for taxes, and
WHEREAS, said properties are presently being used for street purposes
in the Village of Brooklyn Center, and
WHEREAS, it is to the best interests of the Village that such use of
said properties be continued so that acquisition of said properties
from the State of Minnesota without cost will further the interests
of the Village,
NOW THEREFORE, be it resolved by the Village Council of Brooklyn Cente
that the Mayor and Clerk take such steps and initiate such proceedings
as may be necessary to acquire the following described land for street
purposes:
1. S. 160 16 /100 ft of North 190 16/100 ft of
E. 30 ft of West 1/2 of NW 1/4 of SW 1/4;
2. E. 30 ft of S. 79 ft of North 585 16/100 ft
of West 1/2 of NW 1/4 of SW 1/4;
3. North 30 ft of E. 1/4 of West 1/2 of NW 1/4
of SW 1/4; all in Section 1, Township 118,
Range 21 in the Village of Brooklyn Center,
Hennepin County, Minnesota.
The motion for the adoption of the foregoing resolution was duly
seconded by Glen Sonnenberg and upon vote being taken thereon and all members
voting in favor of the motion, motion carried.
Motion made by Paul Weekly and seconded by Glen Sonnenberg to accept
the Justice Report of Russ Jones for month of September,1953. Motion carried.
