HomeMy WebLinkAbout1953 12-09 CCM Regular SessionMinutes of the proceeding of the Village Council of the Village of Brooklyn Center in the County of Hennepin and State of Minnesota, including all accounts audited by said Council December 9, 1953 59 The Village Council met in regular session and called to order by Arthur Paulson, President, at 8:15 P.M. The following members were present: Arthur Paulson, Merrill Stodghill, Wayne.Gegeby, Glen Sonnenberg and Paul Weekly. The minutes of the regular meeting held on December 9, 1953 were approved as read. Motion made by Paul Weekly and seconded by Glen Sonnenberg that the roof on the old part of the Municipal Building be patched, the cost not to exceed $50.00. Motion carried. Motion made by Merrill Stodghill and seconded by Paul Weekly that the plat of the Lilac Addition be approved, and the Mayor and Clerk be authorized to sign same. Motion carried. Motion made by Merrill Stodghill and seconded by Glen Sonnenberg to accept the Justice report of Russ Jones for the month of 'November, 1953. Motion carried Motion made by Wayne Gageby and seconded by Merrill Stodghill to transfer $10,879.00 from the 1953 -B fund to the General fund for the payment of street oiling to V. J. Gleason; all members voting in favor of this motion, mayes none, motion carried. Motion made by Merrill Stodghill and seconded by Wayne Gageby to transfer $11,555.00 from the Permanent Liquor Fund to the General Fund for the payment of street grading to Terry Bros., Inc. All members voting in favor of this motion, motion carried. Member Wayne Gageby moved the adoption of the following ordinance: AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE PLATTING ORDINANCE OF THE VILLAGE OF BROOKLYN CENTER BY REQUIRING APPLICANTS FOR PLATTING TO INSTALL STREET SIGNS The Village Council of the Village of Brooklyn Center do ordain as follows: The platting ordinance of the Village of Brooklyn Center enacted on July 2, 1952 is hereby amended by adding to section 1 of said ordinance under "Mandatory Provisions" a seventh paragraph to read as follows: (7) Whenever the land included within a plat encompasses at least two of the corners formed by street intersections (it being considered that each intersection creates four corners of land at said intersection), the applicant must furnish and place signs designating the names of the streets which signs shall be of the type generally in use within the village and subject to such change as the Village Council may order from time to time in the specifi- cations for such signs. These signs shall be placed into the ground at points in the intersection to be determined by the village engineer. Each sign shall have cement poured around the base beneath the ground level as specified by the Village Council and shall further provide a bar or metal piece at right angles to the pole within the ground so as to prevent rotation of the sign. A bond may be posted covering said installation of said signs in the same manner as provided herein for posting of bonds for completion of street grading and surfacing. This ordinance shall be effective from and after its date of publication. The motion for the adoption of the foregoing ordinance was duly seconded by member Paul Weekly, and upon vote being taken thereon the following voted in favor thereof: Arthur Paulson, Merrill Stodghill, GO Wayne Gageby, Glen Sonnenberg and Paul Weekly; and the following voted against the same: none; whereupon said ordinance was declared duly passed and adopted. Motion carried. 61 The meeting reconvened at 11:05 P.m. to hear the reading of the minutes of the Village Election held on December 8, 1953. The minutes having been read, Merrill Stodghill made a motion which was seconded by Glen Sonnenberg to accept the minutes of the Village Election as read. All members voting in favor of this motion, nayes none, motion carried. Mr. Glen Sonnenberg made the notion to adjourn. This being seconded by Merrill Stodghill, motion carried.
