HomeMy WebLinkAbout1954 01-13 CCM Regular SessionMinutes of the proceeding of the Village Council of the Village of Brooklyn Center in the County of Hennepin and State of Minnesota, including all accounts audited by said Council January 13, 1954 The Village Council met in regular session, and called to order by Arthur Paulson, Mayor, at 8:20 P.M. The following members were present: Arthur Paulson, Wayne Gageby, Glen Sonnenberg, Merrill Stodghill and Paul Weekly. The minutes of the regular meeting held on December 23, 1953 were read and approved. Allen A. Lindman was then seated as Trustee and Mr. Victor A. Ehrenberg as Treasurer. Motion made by Wayne Gageby and seconded by Paul Weekly to accept the proposed plat of John Ryden's 2nd Addition. Members voting in favor were Wayne Gageby, Allen Lindman, Arthur Paulson and Paul Weekly; opposed - Glen Sonnenberg; motion carried. Member Paul Weekly moved the adoption of the following ordinance: AN ORDINANCE CHANGING THE NAME OF SOUTH ERICON DRIVE TO OLIVER AVENUE NORTH VILLAGE OF BROOKLYN CENTER HENNEPIN COUNTY, MINNESOTA The Village Council of the Village of Brooklyn Center do ordain as follows: 1. South Ericon Drive, also known as Ericon Court, (lying between the north line of Lot 25, Auditor's Subdivision 218 and Ericon Drive) is hereby renamed, and shall hereafter be known as, Oliver Avenue North. 2. This ordinance shall be in full force from and after its publication. Thel motion for the adoption of the foregoing ordinance was duly seconded by member Wayne Gageby, and upon vote being taken thereon the following voted in favor thereof: Arthur Paulson, Wayne Gageby, Allen Lindman, Glen Sonnenberg and Paul Weekly; and the following voted against the same: none; whereupon said ordinance was declared duly passed and adopted. Motion made by Glen Sonnenberg and seconded by Paul Weekly to uphold the recommendations of the Planning Commission, changing 53rd Ave. No. between East Twin Lake Boulevard and Twin Lake, legal description to be shown on deed to he presented by Leonard A. Mellin, thru whose property this change is to be made. All members voting in favor of this motion, motion carried. Motion made by Paul Weekly and seconded by Glen Sonnenberg to accept the recommendation of the Planning Commission giving Sons & Co. authority to install a sign on 53rd and Osseo Road for the period of one year. Motion carried. Motion made by Glen Sonnenberg and seconded by Wayne Gageby to change Section 8.01 of the Zoning Ordinance creating a 7 member commission instead of 5 members. Motion carried. Motion made by Wayne Gageby and seconded by Paul Weekly to accept the final Plat of Frank Burch's 3rd Addition and the Village Mayor and Clerk be authorized to sign same. Motion carried. Motion made by Glen Sonnenberg and seconded by Allen Lindman that Geo. W. Jensen be employed as janitor for the Municipal Building effective Monday, January 18, 1954,at a salary of $75.00 per month, starting mornings at 6:30 A.M. All members voting in favor of this motion, motion carried. Motion made by Glen Sonnenberg and seconded by Wayne Gageby that another portable phone be installed in the Village offices. Motion carried. 65 66 Motion made by Glen Sonnenberg and seconded by Wayne Gageby to change locks on Liquor Store side entrance door and the Fire Department entrance door, also change locks on front door and side door to Municipal Building and same key to operate both locks. Motion carried. Motion made by Paul Weekly and seconded by Glen Sonnenberg that the p illage Council furnish venetian blinds for the Fire Department office. Motion carried. Motion made by Paul Weekly and seconded by Glen Sonnenberg to accept the Justice Report for December 1953. Motion carried. Motion made by Wayne Gageby and seconded by Allen Lindman to accept the app :ication.for Cigarette License from Elmer A. Sandholm, 1500 - 55th Avenue North Theodore G. Hyer, 5300 Camden Avenue North Purity Dairy & Food Store, 902 - 53rd Avenue North Christy's Auto Service, 5300 Dupont Avenue North Frank J. Casey, 1900 57th Avenue North Mrs. V. W. Deetz, 6849 Osseo Road Lane & Ernst, 6912 Osseo Road Russell Gilbertson, 6501 Lyndale Avenue North McGrath Grocery, 5845 Lyndale Ave. N. Marv's DX Service, 1912 - 57th Avenue North and that Cigarette Licenses be approved and issued to above parties. Motion carried. Motion made by Paul Weekly and seconded by Wayne Gageby to accept the appointment made by the Brooklyn Center Fire Department, appointing Dan Elmer as Fire Chief for the year 1ti54. Motion carried. Motion made by Paul Weekly and seconded by Wayne Gageby giving the Northern States Power Co. authority to install, one pole on 58th Avenue No. and Girard, one pole on 58th Ave. No. from Girard to Humboldt Ave. North. Motion carried Motion made by Allen Lindman and seconded by Wayne Gageby that the Weed Inspector for 1953 be paid the sum of $75.00. Motion carried.
