HomeMy WebLinkAbout1969 07-07 CCM Board of Review Minutes of the Proceedings of the City Council of the City of Brooklyn Center In the County of Hennepin and State of Minnesota July 7, 1969 The City Council met as the Board of Review and was called to order by Mayor Philip Cohen at 7:32 P. M. Roll Call: Mayor Philip Cohen, Theodore Willard, John Leary, Earl Rydberg, and Howard Heck. Also present were: D. G. Poss, John Nordberg, C.E. Van Eeckhout, B.E. Peterson and Robert Martin, Assistant Hennepin County Assessor. Mayor Cohen outlined the purpose of the Board and Review, noting that property notice of the time and place of the meeting of the Board of Review had been published and posted as required by law. He then called on the Assessor, Mr. Nordberg, for an assessment report. Mr. Nordberg explained to the Board that this being an "odd numbered" year that there were no increases made on any property except new construction. He further reported that no written complaints directed to the Board of Review had been filed with his office, and the City Manager reported that no such written complaints were filed at City Hall for review by the Board. At this time Mayor Cohen recognized a property owner, Mr. Michael Kachman of 4309 - 64th Avenue, and invited his comments to the Board of Review. Mr. Kachman asked the Board of Review to explain why his property taxes were increased and how his taxes were spent. The City Council, staff and Robert Martin, Assistant Hennepin County Assessor, explained the various factors bearing on property taxation including how his taxes were divided among the local governmental units: city, school district and county governments. The .Mayor requested the Assessor- to contact Mr., Kachman and Illustrate for him the extent and effect of last years re- evaluation. Motion by Theodore Willard and seconded by Howard Heck to adjourn the meeting. Voting in favor were: Philip Cohen, John Leary, Earl Rydberg, Howard Deck and Theodore Willard. Voting against were: none. Motion carried unanimously, The City Council meeting as the Board of Review adjourned at 8 :06 P.M. Clerk Mayor wl�
