Minutes of the Proceedings of the Village
Council of the Village of Brooklyn Center
in the County of Hennepin and State of
M innesota
November 8, 1966
The Village Council met in special session as the Canvass Board of
the Election and was called' to order at 9 :30 P. M.
Roll Call: Mayor Philip Cohen, Earl Simons, john Leary,
nib
and Theodore Willard were present.
The Mayor announced that the order of business was the consideration
of the returns of the General Election held November 8, 1966. The offices
up for election were Trustee and Clerk, and the Referendum Question
"Shall the Proposed New Charter be Adopted ?"
Ballots were cast four candidates as follows:
For the Office of Trustee: LeceL
Howard Heck 4, 558
Chauncey Myers 2,,241
For the Office of Clerk:
Robert Long 3,,455
Roger Van House 3,390
Referendum Question:
"Shall the Proposed New Charter be Adopted ?"
YES 4,383
NO 1,179
After completing the!, foregoing canvass, member Theodore Willard
introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption:
BE IT RESOLVED by the Village Council of the Village of Brooklyn
Center that it is hereby determined upon the foregoing Canvass that Howard
Heck is declared the duly elected Trustee.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the referendum question: "Shall the
Proposed New Charter be Adopted ? is hereby determined to have been
adopted.
BE IT F'U'RTHER RESOLVED by the Village Council of the Village of
Brooklyn Center that it is hereby determined upon the foregoing Canvass
that although the office of Village Clerk is abolished by the adoption of the
New Charter, Robert Long received the greater number of votes.
The motion for the adoption of the foregoing resolution was duly seconded
by member john Leary, and upon vote being taken thereon, the following Jf Jz s
voted in favor thereof: Philip Cohen, Earl Simons, John Leary, L eek
and Theodore Willard, and the following voted against the same: none,
whereupon said resolution was declared duly passed and adopted.
Motion by john Leary and seconded by Theodore Willard to adjourn.
Motion carried unanimouslyw The Village Council adjourned at 2:30 A. M.
