HomeMy WebLinkAbout1967 10-04 CCM Special Session 61 Minutes of the Proceedings of the City Council of the City of Brooklyn Center in the County of Hennepin and State of Minnesota October 4, 1967 The City Council met in special session and was called to order by Mayor Pro -tem Howard Heck at 8 :34 P.M. Roll Call: Mayor Pro -tem Howard Heck, john Leary, Gordon Erickson, and Theodore Willard were present. Also present were: D. G. Poss, Paul Holmlund, Richard Cihoski, and several members of the Brooklyn Center Fire Relief Association. Motion by John Leary and seconded by Theodore Willard to reconvene the 1968 Budget Hearing previously adjourned at the meeting of October 2, 1967. Motion carried unanimously. Mr. Poss introduced Mr. Art Paulson, President of the Brooklyn Center Fire Relief Association who had asked to be allured to discuss with the Council the pension levels to be provided under the new state law relating to Brooklyn Center's Fire Relief Association. Mr. Paulson proceeded to discuss various points related to the $80 per month pension level the Council had previously agreed to during its Budget discussions. Mr. Paulson proposed the possibility of the $80 per month pension benefit level being increased to some higher level within the $80 to $120 range provided by the new law. Mayor Cohen arrived at this point in the meeting, at 8 :46 P. M. , and assumed the Chair from Mayor Pro-tem Howard Heck. Following further comments by Mr. Paulson, the Council asked questions of him and of the City Manager relating to the pension program. Mr. Willard left the meeting at this point, at 8 :56 P. M. Following futher discussion, the Council directed that the previously agreed upon level of pension benefits, $80 per month, be used in calculating the 1968 Budget in order to actuarially fund the pension program. The Mayor and Council stated further, however, that they would review the pension level for future budgets at the time of reviewing the amendments to the Fire Relief Association's By -Laws, expected to be submitted to the Council before January I 1968. Member John Leary introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption: RESOLUTION NO. 67 -299 RESOLUTION THE 1968 BUDGET The motion for the adoption of the foregoing resolution was duly seconded by member Howard Heck and upon vote being taken thereon, the following voted in favor thereof: Philip Cohen, John Leary, Gordon Erickson, and Howard Heck, and the following voted against the same: none, whereupon said resolution was declared duly passed and adopted. Member Gordon Erickson introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption: RESOLUTION NO. 67-300 RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING A TAX LEVY FOR 1968 BUDGET APPROPRIATIONS -1- 57 The motion for the adoption of the foregoing resolution was duly seconded by member John Leary , and upon vote being taken thereon, the following voted in favor thereof: Philip Cohen, John Leary, Gordon Erickson and Howard Heck, and the following oted against the sa w o g me: none, whereupon said resolution wa s po declared duly passed and adopted. YP P Member Howard Heck introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption: RESOLUTION NO. 67- 301 RESOLUTION TO CANCEL LEVY PREVIOUSLY CERTIFIED TO THE COUNTY AUDITOR The motion for the adoption of the foregoing resolution was duly seconded by member Gordon Erickson, and upon vote being taken thereon, the following voted in favor thereof: Philip Cohen, John Leary, Gordon Erickson and Howard Heck, and the following voted against the same: none, whereupon said resolution was declared duly passed and adopted. Member John Leary introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption: RESOLUTION NO. 67 -302 RESOLUTION TO CANCEL LEVY PREVIOUSLY CERTIFIED TO THE COUNTY AUDITOR The motion for the adoption of the foregoing resolution was duly seconded by member Howard Heck, and upon vote being taken thereon, the following voted in favor thereof: Philip Cohen, John Leary, Gordon Erickson and Howard Heck, and the following voted against the same: none, whereupon said resolution was declared duly passed and adopted. • Motion by Howard Heck and seconded by Gordon Erickson to close the 1968 Budget Hearing and adjourn the meeting.
